I understand that the HSE is top of the range?

is it possible to find other models that have high specs?

are the differences between models listed anywhere?

I want a really high spec model, as I am coming out of a Jaguar s-type SE fully loaded.

On a separate note the auto's have a lower towing capacity, if that's an issue (1750kg against 2000kg)

Both auto and manual are 2000Kg towing weight, LR are one of the few manufacturers that don't down rate the auto version my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

i was advised that for offroading and towing the auto was the one to go for, as the manual clutch/DMF combination was weak if ''abused''.

ive had 2 manuals, both had clutch/DMF failures (96k miles and 66k miles)

ive now got an auto, and apart from the box searching for 5th/6th sometimes on a long run, I much prefer the auto box.

One way of looking at it is that even if you have a warranty, on a manual it doesn't cover the clutch which can cost about £1k even at an indie to replace. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Manual for me. I'd generally always prefer a manual, but in the right vehicle, like my heavy D3, an auto really excells and I rate it very highly. I had an SD4 auto on loan after my 56-plate manual got written off, and I didn't like it. I just got the sense that there wasn't enough weight and outright (not relative) torque behind it to work really well, so in a FL2, I prefer the manual.  Freelander 2 2007 TD4 Manual HSE Tambora Flame

Had Manuals up to now, but really enjoying the auto. Also my 18 year old son finds it 'cool' and is also enjoying driving it, I'm usually left with the 107  B 1984 RR Vouge,H 1991 Disco 1, L 1993 Disco, N 1996 Disco, Y 2001 Disco, 53 Disco 2, 56 Disco 3, MY10 TD4 XS [Nav] Manual Rimini Red, MY13 TD4 GS Auto Firenze Red, MY15 Disco Sport SE Tech Firenze Red.

I always had manuals. Company cars were always auto. I wanted an auto for this purchase. Also a proper auto for slow up hill start stop traffic in Sydney.

I used to have a starting handle on an old car. I know how to use it but don't want another. I feel the same about a clutch and manual gearbox.

Automatic is best for towing, traffic, mountain passes and general enjoyment. You pay a bit more for fuel but I think it's well worth it. They're also easier to sell on when the time comes.

Dual Mass Flywheels sound like the devil's spawn. Never had one but don't feel I've missed out. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

I wanted all the toys, hence HSe, could do without the sat nav though as it is either me or it but we don't get on (although I do like her voice )
What I can say though is, as standard you get an overwhelming sense of security and the feeling that you can cope with anything the road can throw at you, awesome!

I just paid (friday) 8K for a 3.2 i6 Auto HSE 56 plate (2007 MY) with 80K on the clock. Full Service History and just MOT'd.

Well pleased.
