Blend door actuator recalibration

I have been trying to establish why I have normal or expected heat to the facia and screen on my 2007 SE but no heat to the footwells.
Trolling around the web I have come across mentions of the Blend Door Actuator which controls the opening/closing of the doors/flaps in the heating system.
Apparently they can fail or can simply stop if the battery has been disconnected at some point - similar to you having to reset the electric windows after a battery disconnection.
Has anyone come across this before? Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

My heating actuator has been playing up for the past year I've just learned to ignore it. The actuator makes a sort of weird creaking or woo sound as it tries to adjust the flap which seams to stick. I think my blend flap needs greasing with petroleum jelly or similar that doesn't emit Odours.
