I think I meant 'Gatling' but having Googled it, that seems even older. On reflection an EMP device would be most suitable |

I didn't say all LEDs would be; I meant that with the high luminous efficacy of LEDs, it is fairly safe to assume that any decent quality LED unit designed for use as fog lights (as per Mikey's Osram units) is highly likely to be a bit brighter to make it saleable.
Colour temperature does affect what we perceive as "glare" due to way the human eye processes light and psycological effects. Lights at higher colour temperatures have been shown to be more glaring than lower colour temperatures - the effect of one's own headlights will be more significant in inclement weather. It's for these reasons that selective yellow headlights do work (not, due to Rayleigh scattering as has been wrongly asserted in the past). A warmer light is also inclined to encourage the eye to lean towards photopic vision vs mesopic/scotopic due to the wavelength sensitivity of the rods and cones in our eyes. Some LEDs can indeed have a very high CRI, but most white LEDs and the sorts typically used do not by comparison with halogen. It's a more minor point anyway and my emphasis was intended on the colour temperature more so. You do make a vaild point though; I am generalising a lot here. My statements are based more on the typical sorts of products currently available rather than the overall capabilities of LEDs. I would cetainly like to see manufacturers looking to make related improvements on an LED system.
"Styling" only though - it's clear to look at them that there's no vertical beam cutoff, so they will shine light straight up at the fog in front and ruin any hope of clearer vision.
