I used to go to a gym 2 to 3 times a week when i was (a lot) younger. But my excuse was as I went through my forties that regular gym sessions coupled by playing a RL prop forward position (and having a body to match lol) it bloody well hurt so I gave up.

Depends what you want to achieve really, do you want to look like poldark or the rock. The only advice I would give is to get a personal trainer, see them twice a month for a while, gets you focused and stops you wasting time at the gym, then you know how to achieve what you want and can crack on by yourself and check in with the trainer every few months making sure your on target. This is working for me, I've had a bad back for years, the trainer got rid of that in 2 visits and I'm now lifting weights and running miles. |

I would agree with Wurzel - a good trainer is worth the money. I've had 2 in the past, both who focused on whole body workouts using things like kettlebells and those are by far the most effective methods. Also need very little kit so you can carry on what they teach you at the gym or home.

that's the problem with the gym, you can do yourself more damage than good, a bit like long term running.

You need one of those persons who runs along with you to give you encouragement, sort of like a slim fit bird with a nice bum to run just in front of you whos wearing a teeshirt saying catch me if you can |

My favourite machine in the gym is the snack vending machine. |
