Caffyns LR said to replace the oil pump would have cost £560 had I not had the warranty. _________________

Had the same issue on my 2010 plate, and also repaired under warranty, was intrigued to see how much it would have cost

My FL2 has exactly the same problem. The terrain response light go out while driving a few kms. At the meantime you can drive 4x2. When I make a stop for a while and restart , the problem is cleared but it pops after a few more kms. I took my FL2 to the service last week. They have found out error warnings but they insist that none of them indicate a failure. Today I will be heading to the service second time. If this turns out to be a problem on the Haldex pump , this will be a nice evidence that the error reporting mechanism does not work at all.

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Havana

Had this error message come up last night. Hoping it was just 'one of those things' but still there this morning. It seems to be driving in 2 wheel drive which is a bit hairy on the lanes this morning which are slick with leaves. The thing is I only picked up my car on Tuesday after it was off the road for 33 days having a second new gearbox so feeling a bit sore now. That was after it was off the road in August for 20 days whilst the original gearbox was replaced. I appreciate that this is probably not gearbox related but losing faith in this car's reliability. Whilst I was off the road I had an Enterprise MY2013 Dynamic which was a fantastic drive. Not sure what they have done but so much nicer to drive in terms of quietness and general 'tightness' I didn't like to think what the bill was at the end of the hire as the standard daily rate is over £250.00. (As an aside the service from LRA and Enterprise was fantastic. Perhaps they have had lots of practice. Whistle Anyway, off to call LRA in a bit and then no doubt a trip back to the dealer. Frustrating as I would like another LR product at the end of the contract, July 2015, but starting to lose the will now.

Ok I had this the other day after getting the diff replaced as it exploded the haldex pump failed and the transmission message came up Sad anyway cut a long story short had it all fixed £1600 and now the bloody clutch is making a foul noise upon start up and when you press it down in neutral for the biting point not a happy bunny When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Auto Sumatra Black

Hi;

My car is a Dec 2007 (57 plate) SE Auto. For seven years it has been faultless, over the moon with it. It hasn't had a hard life, only 68,000 miles of which maybe 15,000 has been towing our caravan.

Unfortunately, last year when travelling back from Scotland towing in manual, it suddenly threw its toys out of the pram and produced a 'Transmission Fault' message. Switched off, switched on again and good as gold for the rest of the journey. I took it to a dealer who kindly put it on diagnostics but the result was inconclusive. This year, same again. The dealer suggested we change the oil and clean the filter in the rear Haldex. However, before I could arrange this, I drove solo up to the Lakes and at the start of Whinlatter Pass it suddenly started a whining noise, increasing in volume as the car changed down and the revs increased. I took it to a gearbox specialist in Blackpool where I live ( no LR Dealer here) who could not pinpoint the problem, said the gearbox was changing gear 'beautifully' but nevertheless the whine remains. He said he didn't want to strip it down and potentially not find anything and said that if I took it to a main dealer 'they don't strip down gearboxes, they just replace them'. I had this confirmed by the Service Manager.

To be honest, I'm appalled - this may be a minor fault yet I could be faced with a bill for upwards of £4000??? Surely this can't be right?

I am delighted to say that the whine was not the gearbox but the power steering fluid reservoir/filter! Mark at Torver LR did say that it sounded gearbox-ish but that he thought it was the power steering which it proved (touch wood) to be. So, 45 mins, a new part and £86 later I was back on the road happy as Larry. Bow down

Good experience at Torver/Lakeland, Mark comes across as a really decent bloke and makes you feel like your car is the most important one in his day. Grateful thanks. I have also posted this in the dealer section because credit where it is due when they get it right - we give 'em plenty of stick when they don't! Thumbs Up

England 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Zermatt Silver

i had the reduced traction, transmission error come up on my FL2 about 3 months ago. When I stopped and restarted the engine it never came back and hasn't done despite several thousand miles of driving since - until yesterday that is. But once again an engine restart and it hasn't come back.

It's a 2009 car with 90k on it. Do I just live with this with fingers crossed (not when I'm driving of course) it won't re-occur or is that fact I have had two warnings in just under 4 months a sign that things aren't right (I was considering getting a newer FL2)?

Or you may read the error codes - for sure are some stored in the transmission's ECUs - and see what's happening in order to be prepared.

'Only' error codes I came up with are P0380, P1259 and P0570. Have searched on here and none of these to my unmechanical eye appear to have relevance to the reduced traction error
