Plastic Trim Discoloration

Has anyone found a product to permanently remove wax/polish residues from plastic trim? I have scoured the internet and, from the reviews, can't find anything that is completely effective.

I am unsure as to what product has caused this (traffic film remover, polishing compound etc) as it was already present when I bought the car. I suspect it is polishing compound as there are a few fine scratches in the paintwork where it has brushed up against hedges on narrow lanes. I have been using a trim dressing which does a fairly good job of hiding it but it would be really nice to remove it completely. The trim on the drivers side is unmarked.

I have used permanent bumper dye trim on my FL1 and it is really good stuff.

I also did my brand new FL2 bodykit mudflaps prior to handing them over to the dealers to get them fitted as they were not as black as I wanted them to be. The dye has just been applied to the lower part in the photo.

I have to agree with LR Nut, the plastic dye stuff is very good. It brought the light surrounds of my 90 to almost factory fresh with just a couple of applications.

I got a turtle wax 'black box' kit for christmas (think its a hint that mine is constantly brown) which claims can be used to recolour both paintwork and plastics. Ive not had a chance to try it yet, but if it is as good as its blurb makes out Whistle then it may be of use to remove left over wax etc from trim pieces.

It looks like the plastic could be permanently etched by wrongly dliuted tfr. Give Autoglym bumper gel a try . I have seen rubber/plastic etched like this before . Keep us updated with the outcome .

Many thanks for your help. I'll try the gel first before resorting to the dye. LR nut did you find it went on evenly with the supplied applicator or is it best to brush it on? Reading some of the online reviews it's tricky to remove if you allow it to dry on areas you don't want covered.

If it's old polish then you could try a pencil eraser or a magic sponge will do it,just be gentle with the sponge.
