Draw eventually found from two sources. Keith got land rovers in hampshire very helpful in diagnosis.

1. Electric seat power control module

2. Head unit

Electric seat controls for the passenger seat not shutting down correctly keep battery saver relay in glove box open. When a new power control module sells for £900 the solution was to pull the connection from the passenger seat. Still considering a work around for this. May look to out in manual switch, 12v relay in line so only active when ignition on or leave as is and manualy plug cables back in when seat required to move.

Head unit and its myriad of wires. Due to aftermarket head unit, original pdc's would not have worked (unless appropriate adapter for head unit was used, in this case it has not been) so aftermarket canm8 parktones installed by previous owner. Wiring for these was incorrect, 12v ign on wired directly to battery cable to head unit meaning pdc's permanently wired to battery.

Monitoring the situation. All I can say is a Land Rover electrical problem is certainly not helped when incorrect wiring is done with aftermarket bits of kit.

Mmm, aftermarket wiring, my lad has a Mini, wanted to connect his iphone to it to listen to his music, bought one of the adapters that you plug in line to the radio, involves unplugging they plug to the radio inserting the new plug then reconnecting his original plug in to it, you know the sort, worked like it should when listening to his music, only problem was it would not let his Mini go to sleep when he locked it, his battery would be dead flat in eight hours.

Thought it best to post that at long last i found (stumbled across more like) the solution to the battery drain.

Seems that with the car in Global opening mode the battery was draining overnight but in the default opening (single press on the fob to open drivers door and a second to open all) i can report that the car has been problem free.

Classic LR random electrical gremlin.

I have noticed that rear passenger side door central locking has failed, not sure if the two issues are connected, but haven't got around to changing it over.

Will post back when its serviceable and see if its made a difference. For now, happy, electrical filled Freelandering continues.

I have literally just read that someone else on here has had multiple electrical issues, and one problem turned out to be the global opening function draining the battery.

the suggestion was to disconnect the battery and hard reset, leaving it disconnected for a good while before reconnecting ??

your rear door not working is either going to be the latch (classic problem) or the relay. if it sounds like the door is trying to unlock but then wont open its the latch, if it doesn't sound like its unlocking its more than likely the relay.

im not a mechanic or electrical guy in any way shape or form but those would be my best guesses based on what ive read on here

Yea it may have been my suggestion as i saw that post. Disconnecting for a period of time (i too am not an electrician) resets the car to factory settings - windows and global opening.

Just checked out the latch, classic problem with the servo being lazy. Need to pull it out and either replace or lubricate as per others suggestions on here. A job left for when there's more warmth and light! Thanks for the advice.

I just skip through posts to see if there is any useful information for me, inbetween doing actual work in the office so it may well have been your suggestion that I saw briefly

Well, incredible. After reading this thread and feeling very smug because my battery had never gone flat in four and a half years of ownership, it did. The car had been standing for three days double locked as normal, and when I went to start it, it wouldn't even turn over. It's a new battery as well, about 3 months old now. The car has stood for many periods of three day and much longer in the past without any problems. The only thing I can think of is that I opened the boot a couple of days ago on the fob without unlocking the car. Of course the boot locks itself afterwards but I am thinking that the system did not shut down completely afterwards ie in effect, not double locked.

It's the only thing I can think of that could have caused the problem, so I wont be doing that again! Unlocking and relocking everything in future! Have I stumbled on a solution for some?

I think you have correctly identified the problem. I had a flat battery once only on my MY07 and worked out that using the boot unlock button was the most likely cause. I speculate that this is designed to let you put the shopping in the boot or whatever before driving away, and that it does not instigate a full shut-down procedure even though the car appears to relock.
