tailgate leak

Been out driving in heaving rain (and a little snow!) over the last few days in my MY2013 HSE.

Water is leaking into the boot - this is not via the high level brake light, which I know is a common problem, as the window is dry. There is however a fine spray of water droplets over the floor mat and the interior plastic trim beneath the rear window.

I assume this is a defect in the large rubber seal which goes right round the boot?

Has anyone else had this problem/had it fixed? I just bought the car 2 months ago, but it seems like body seals are specifically excluded from the 2 year used car warranty, so I guess I'm going to have to pay the dealer or my local mobile indy (you know who you are DM) to fix...

Any thoughts welcome...

Thanks,
Gavin

Update

So, an update:

Took the Freelander to my local main dealer, Pentland Land Rover in Edinburgh, where I purchased it as an Approved Used only 6 weeks ago.

Good news: They sat me down, gave me a coffee and whisked the car straight into the workshop, immediately diagnosed a leaking high level brake light (a very common fault apparently) and replaced it there and then. Great customer service from a main dealer. I was impressed!

Bad news: The car is 6 days, yes 6 days, out of manufacturer warranty and there is now some doubt as to whether the Approved Used Extended Warranty will cover this (they don't tell you when you buy the car about all the exclusions!).

Anyway, the dealer is going to see if the warranty will cover it and get back to me...

I had the same issue of a water leak through the high level brake light, and I have a Land Rover extended warranty with the top level of cover. (Car is coming up to 4 years old).

I asked the dealer if this known issue would be corrected under the warranty. They checked with the warranty people by phone and the answer was, "No, not covered" and quoted £85 to do the work.

I'd be interested if you get a different answer? (Although I have now fixed it myself after reading several useful posts on this forum).

I also need to ask the dealer whether the wheel arch trim pieces will be covered by the warranty. Any one have any experiences of this?

My previous MY11 had them replaced after 2 years under warranty by Duckworths, Market Raisin. My present MY13 after 2 years is also showing 'swollen' trims, so will try again with this car under warranty.

If it was the leaking brake light, they don't need to replace it just fix it properly so they should not be charging you for a replacement, if that is what they are trying to do IMO.

well it has been replaced and if the cost of a dry boot is £100 then I guess that is a price worth paying. Although I'm still less than impressed at the whole warranty issue..

Stick your ground on the warranty issue. I've had a turbo, and transfer box replaced both out of warranty. The bill (only last week) came to £4k, but I pais £700 after complaining to LR customer services.

The same garage quoted me more than £100 to replace the leaking high level light after saying it wouldn't be covered under extended warranty. I bought a new one from Dan for £52.

If you get yours replaced under warranty I shall be having words with them! FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…
