Hi guys can anyone help, I've had my wife's freelander 2 in for some work had hill decent ABS reduced engine power, booked in to I dependant guy, was stalling and cutting out while driving, so it had to go in, change wheels speed sensor and said I needed a throttle body , had that fitted now he says I need a new turbo, my question is my wife's car is a 2008 I've found a low mile turbo from a 2012/13 car can anyone tell me if this will fit/work or do I need one from an older car, ???

Also he says my turbo actuator is seized up , dowse this mean my turbos fooooked or could a new one of those cure the problem any help or answer would be much appreciate thanks.

Check these posts, has the indie run a diagnostic?

Note in the second one that Alex said that the turbo could be cleaned, not saying that it is your issue, but it might help.

If I remember correctly from a post way back, the pre 2011 TD4 turbo was not water cooled and post 2011 SD4 is 25% bigger, with a water cooled centre bearing.

EDIT: found the thread here

Your right he said they needed them anyway, showed me the parts tbh don't believe it needed them but the parts he shown me had teeth damaged, but I've just taken the actuator off as he said it's jammed and the rod will not shift, so they would only put a new turbo on complete , I've just taken the air pipe off turbo and I don't think there is excessive play on the shaft, am I right in thinking there would be some until oil pressure builds up??? , and the rod is totally free, no hold on it what so ever, I asked him if he had fitted the new fuel flitter I aphad provided , he said yes I asked if he had test drove it after and he said yes, I've looked under the bonnet today and guess what , that filter isn't new no foooooking way, I guess you can tell how I'm dealing by now, and had an abs sensor fitted that I all ready had , charge for part £35 ( what the ) I provided it, and the wheel nuts I could turn with the bar provided standard in these cars with no pressure best part of a half a turn, and I've now got a stud/nut that dosent belong to my car, looks like he's found any old bolt and fitted it, this is my wife's car and she drives the kids about in it, Censored , these guys have a great set up, and wouldn't want to name them but I'm not far off this, does anyone no if a new actuator ( not sure how to spell that or if that's what it's called) any one no if this is a part you can buy from landrover???? Please if you no please tell me, I no you can buy these on eBay, and anyone got a link to one working as this works but I'm not sure how it's meant to move and when , thanks and sorry for the rant

England 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Stornoway Grey

Our turbo went earlier in the year and we were told by an independent and a main dealer that the actuator and turbo had to be changed together since the actuator is "tuned" to the turbo. Cost an eye-watering £1600 at the Kendal main agents but I must say we were impressed by their service and the car has been faultless since. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto
Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne

Sorry to hijack, but how does blanking the EGR not effect the operation of the turbo, or have I read item C wrong - the exhaust gas inlet?

Hi John
Just picked up your thread. As far as I am aware you cannot repair the turbo, if that is your problem. You can however have it reconditioned by a specialist now (couldn't find one at the time when I needed it). You can now also get an exchange unit by return post if your in a hurry. A new Garret turbo will set you back about £800.
Apart from limp mode mine came up with 'turbo boost position sensor A' as a code if that's any help. Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

England 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 Metropolis LE Auto Santorini Black

Before I took delivery of my 2007 Freelander before last one the dealer had a new actuator fitted by Central Turbo in Derby and the car was a little flyer, in fact it felt livelier than the SD4 that replaced it. FL2 SD4 Metropolis Auto Santorini Black / ivory completely stock.

Got same code as yours, been told it's the actuator, but the arms is free and has no resistance when the actuator is removed, seen on eBay firms selling that actuator on its own or recondition your own, how do these people tune them if they need tuning to your turbo, do main dealers sell the actuator or is it a new turbo with then and is a £100 one for a eBay seller worth a try, noticed today car is cranking slow , dowse this mean a battery issue and that bringing faults up, ??? Thanks to all of you

Eyorkshire my eyes are no good enough to see it properly thanks
