John. What you have to be aware of with turbo parts is they are made with specialist alloys and some of these cheap parts are not.
End of the day its your call, if it were me I would have it checked buy a turbo expert.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.

Mine don't have the DPF

You say the turnover is slow, how old is the battery? I would change it if it was the original for the car. Not saying that this is your problem though but duff batteries show all kinds of symptoms.

We have never replaced it in 3 years but it was slow but not been used for few days part from when this guys been teasing the car, not sure how long he will have been leaving ignition on, was fine before he had it in starting fine and not slow turning or cranking,

I'm still not happy the fuel filter I supplied hasn't been fitted and not sure if this will help on it going into reduced performance, as I've the same on my transit van , I no it's not a freelander but same symptoms as freelander, got told new fuel pump loads of things, I put a new fuel filter on even though it was supposed to have had one 13000 miles ago and the van is perfect now £28 repair, got told £1650 to repair, and put a fuel filter on thinking no chance of it working but worth a try, and for that reason I've got this in my mind on freelander, is it hard to fit one on the freelander can you just fill them up with diesel and the inlet side to keep it clean and start the Car ??? Or do I need a pump or special tool

Anyone no how many hours landrover give there fitters to fit new turbo thanks

John. don't know if this helps, but I was charged 4hrs labour by 'Turbo PACs' of Durham. This included removal and fitting of turbo, engine flush,new oil,fuel and air filter and oil change with premium grade oil. Total £1360. This was for NEW turbo not reconditioned.

Apparently others on this site have said that's a good price.  Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

Hi guys quick update , still car isn't on the road, had new throttle body fitted, didn't sort the problem out, so the guy tells me it needs a new turbo, so I booked it in for the new turbo, go's in for turbo, last week, a asked him if he had done any checks on the turbo pipes for leaks and has he done any tests like smoke test, he says no but he will do that before he fits new turbo, I get a call saying need new water radiator and intercooler ( I knew the intercooler had a leak but didn't no this could effect the car , but had slight oil leak from it,) so I get another cooler and rad, asked if he had fitted my new fuel filter I provided and he said yes, but when I went it to ask him why he had not fitted the new fuel filter, he said O I said it wouldn't make any diffrance fitting it , I said that dosent sound like what I had heared!!! No reply to that, so I said I want it fitting because I think fuel might not be getting through enough, ( as I've just had the same on my transit van) I thought it had had one recently when my wife filled the car up with petrol, turns out the garage that drained the tank of petrol, didn't fit a new filter even though they had said they did at the time, so now I get a call today saying I've fitted the new filter and got full at both the inlet and outlet on the filter and got fuel to the injectors ( I called in last night and watched them mess around like a couple of monkys trying to get fuel throu the new filter,) he now says I need a new starter motor as it's only turning the car over for 3 cranks, so I pave asked him is the battery ok ( is it flat low on charge anything) he says yes battery's fine, 12.5v's so I asked what is it when cranking ( I don't believe he has checked this but he says it's down to 6volts, so I said well that's to low it should be no lower than 9.5volts ( am I right on this can someone put me right on this one) what should it be when cranking?, so he says it's not my fault the starters on its way out, I've said well it was ok when it went in was starting ok, etc, I think he has struggled with the fuel filter and fooooked the starter cranking it over thinking it will pull the fuel through , but he's not going to admit to this,
He's starts to say shall I ring you back later so I say why, he says you sound like your unhappy , so I say well wouldn't you be , the cars had parts fitted to it that clearly didn't need fitting and now you say starts fooooooooked! What next new bloody engine,

He must of never had a customer loose there temper before to ask ask me shall I ring you back,

Can someone tell me how landrover fit a new fuel filter, do they just have a hand pump?? I allways thought they had a machine and used computer to pump fuel through, and can anyone tell me why or what reason could the starter of now packed in , I no they don't last for ever cheers please reply guys, end of my rant, and sorry if you can't understand this as I'm a little pi55ed of and can't think straight, spent an load of money with the recommendation of a landrover specialist and now got foooocked starter and still no turbo

When I change my fuel filter I leave off the inlet line, use a spare piece of tube and a small funnel to fill up the filter unit. I then connect the inlet and the car usually starts after cranking a couple of times.

Long story now but I got a call off the garage saying my starter needs changeling now so
I bought a new starter motor and the morning after I paid for fast delivery, I got a call saying cars ok and ready to go bit confused as I've just bought a new starter for my car, my wife phone the garage up, where he said cars all sorted and can be picked up today, the wife said how can that be you said yesterday afternoon it needed a new starter, the guy go's quite and wife thinks he's out phone down , then says I've had enough of this and my hub will gave to deal with this, I'm absolutely ffffing mad by now, one min it needed a trotter body , but still got the fault next needs a turbo, then I ask if they have checked if there's a vacuum leak ( as another garage said no way is it turbo) so they check that befor fitting turbo, then I'm told it needs a starter, I asked for a new fuel filter fitting about 5-6 times but told you don't fit a fuel filter before fitting a turbo, now I am confused I say why!!! No answer he just says that what landrover say, so I say why it's cheapest thing first and I've asked you to do this for 3 bloody weeks and if that's the case why do landrover fit them every other service!!! Same again no answer, finally the filters fitted and ha presto cars fine , nearly £2-3000 down the road and a £35 filter sorted it, he tells me that might not have been what solved it and I say well I think it is, you've fitted new filter and cars fine, he says you or we will never no, so I get my keys and walk out, I'm foooooockec off big style but cars ok, thanks for all you help guys

No, I didn't pay him but feel I should pay something, only I've spent £197 on starter motor and £163 on a hire car for extra hire car for extra weeks hire, because I booked the car in for the fitting of a the new turbo and car was ment to be ready for a weekend so he had car wed-sat and when I rang to see if it was ready he hadn't started it and tried to say I got my wires crossed and it was booked in for following week, but I had put it in my diary and he had d's aid this time next week that dosent sound like not next week week after, I asked to look at his diary and he said no so I said that's because I'm right and he said yes, it first went in with the AA man ( ex landrover field engeneir ) saying after reading codes saying change abs sensor and fuel filter and car will be fine, I had cover they pay first £500 before I pay anything, he said that would be more than enough to then been told it needed and throttle body and the needed a turbo and then needed a radiator and intercooler ( fitted both these after I bought good second hand ones) I had old inter cooler checked yesterday this was pressure tested to save it been fitted back on the car and it was pressured up to 3 bar with no bubbles when held in a big tank, so even though I had been leaking before it wasn't now, so they tell me that rules the intercooler out from been the problem, but say even if it was leaking a little it wouldn't have caused the car to just keep cutting out straight away when driven 100-200 yards up road,
Then I get told I needed a starter motor , that I quickly race out and buy. Because I do t want to hire a car for a 3rd week ( as this is just throwing good money away after bad £263 up to date) this is after he finally fits the new fuel filter that I've been asking him to fit for 3 weeks because everyone says try that first and AA man said do it first, then in get a call to say cars running fine now and ready to pick up, what does this look like was the problem to you guys, he isn't a main dealer as they to said fit fuel filter first, but a Indy local to me, with a realy nice set up great website and funny he's a member on here. When I got car back first time front wheel was loose to a stage I could turn the bolts with the little hand leaver that comes with the car without any pressure, he told me at the time that his dad did it with a rTchet battery gun when I said the other dad well I allways thought you still torque them with a bar after he said he had done this , that got my back up even more because he hadn't said thus before when I had gone back in the day later playing hell about it, I don't want to name him really as mine might just have been one if those siht jobs that just go wrong and he might be a good Indy, but we can't take our car back again even though he said he will not work on this car again, a bit of a cheak really when it's him that faulty diagnosed all problem and started just fitting what he wanted . I did say when's it going to end when I fit a new engine, I'll see how I feel when I think about it more about naming them , do you lot think he shoul be paid not forgetting I've got a stater and had an extra £163 hire car to pay for thanks guys amazing what you learn on these site and how most of you no more than these guys charging the earth to work on our car
