Hi Jo Thumbs Up

Glad to have you here asking questions on the FL2 Very Happy

Regarding the running cost, you ask for petrol are you looking at the i6? or the TD4 diesel?

As they vary quite a bit between them both

Personally my TD4 goes through between £120 & £240 a month depending on the mileage i do and what type of driving as a lot of mine is inner town driving and just a little motorway,

Nothing else that comes to mind on monthly running cost, apart from tires, which i have gone through 1 set of front, and second set of rears will be coming shortly by the looks of it, (£100 each) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Zermatt Silver

I just got my TD4 manual 07 XS & was also worried about the mpg as my RX8 was shocking Shocked I'm abit sad but I'm tracking the mpg just to see where it really is. I've been generally driving like Miss Daisy, changing up at 2,000rpm & getting the following figures...but it does go when you get bored & put your foot down;

470 miles - 58 litres = 36.8 mpg (short commuting + dealer visit stop/start etc)
313 miles - 38 litres = 37.4 mpg (commuting + 1 60mile round trip)
320 miles - 36 litres = 40.4mpg (1 x 150 mile round trip weekend)

I'm not running her dry as the fuel guage stops working & it goes into 'limp mode' with 130miles left ...another story Censored However, the range is showing over 600miles when filled up!Thumbs Up

I've had it up to 42mpg on a long run...however if you do more than 75mph on the motorway it'll drops to 38-39 pretty quickly! Overall average is 38.0mpg so 1103 miles has cost me about £160, so about £1920 per year assuming 13k miles....although only £768 in tax with my fuel card Whistle

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Stornoway Grey

Hi Thanks for the response.. Very Happy very helpful so far.

I am thinking of getting an TD4 Manual HSE or SE ( late 21st birthday present to myself Embarassed )

it'll be one hell of a change thats for sure because i drive a 206 petrol at the moment and well........ i get around in it...

i'll be driving around 20miles a day round trip from home to work and then at weekends it's anyones guess sometimes just to the shops and on other days i might feel adventurous and head to wales or Cornwall depending on my mood Smile.

I brought my 206 just over 2years ago with 17k on the dial and well not it's 46k and i'm bored and want to have some fun.
I have always wanted a Freelander but i heard so many bad things about the FL1 that i didn't want to go there but the FL2 when i saw it and test drove it i fell in love.

But i want to make sure that i am ready for the costs, I don't want to buy a great car that i may not be able to run so your in put is great. Very Happy

I have a TD4 auto and get 33-34mpg average which is 5 miles town driving in queues and 75 miles on the motorway.

I hope this helps you decide on your purchase you won't regret it!

Scotland 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Auto Indus Silver

I average about 130 miles a week to and from work, mainly city driving with a short sprint on a dual carriageway. For this I allocate £100 per month for fuel but normaly works out to be about £85.

Hope that helps.

Get ~32mpg with constant round town driving, but not many miles a week so fill up (from 1/4 full) 50litres once a month.
Insurance is £500 ish but with no no-claims discount as my full no-claims discount lapsed while I was a named driver Evil or Very Mad
VED is currently £210 pa.
Nothing else really. Phil

i thought some insurance companies gave a NCD when you have been claim free on anothers insurance (certainly with company car insurance)......worth asking a roker about surely?

Yes, some companies offer that but only if you were named driver on one of their policies. Typically, not the one I was named driver on Rolling Eyes .Also, if it goes beyond 2 years since you were insured with no-claims bonus, then you lose it. Phil

When we only had the one car my wife and I used to take turns being the insured whilst the other was the additional driver - we swapped every two years. One year we slipped up and thought we were in year two but were in year three. My eighteen years of unblemished history was gone in a flash! I am now back at the start with only one years NCB Crying or Very sad That said, I have insured a shiney new FL2 and my wifes 08 Clio for £280 & £140 a year through Admiral - I really cant fault that Very Happy Very Happy

On the running cost side of things - I did 700 miles on a business trip last week - East anglian roads, M1, the grim north Wink and back again with a fair bit of town and roadwork driving - got average of 41.7mpg Very Happy

Phil,
A few companies will honour a NCD up to three years after it was used. Norwich Union is one of them.
Also there is a broker called A Quote who got my wife a good NCD of her own even though she had only ever been a named driver. That was through Zurich, even though we had never used them before.

Can't add much to the MPG figures as mine is coming in between 36-39 depending on foot pressure. What I can say though is that after 5199 miles this is quite simply the best car I've ever had and that includes a number of Audi's and BMW's.

Get one - you wont regret it and if you do, call me and I'll give you your money back!

I called Norwich Union, no, no they said. I ended up with Direct Line who provided a NCD bonus of 1 year as new policy, which isn't bad as usually the first bonus is a big 30%. Phil

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Baltic Blue

Hi,

push the dealer to throw in tyre insurance for free, which means no nasty surprises, due to punctures etc. I did and have had 1 claim already! but was immediately reimbursed.
You could also ask about fixed price service plans as well, so you know where you stand monthly.
As posted elsewhere, you can also use Tesco vouchers for Land rover experience days, just to give you an idea of what this wonderful vehicle can do, and you don't use/dirty your own car either!

Hope this helps. FL2 TD4 S Baltic Blue, with twin electrics and towbar, roofrails, luggage cover, spare wheel and mudflaps.
