I live near an army camp and when the Irish troubles were on they had an armed soldier standing at the gate. I had the misfortune to have a puncture just outside the gate once and found myself surrounded as they were initially suspicious that it might be car bomb. I was eventually allowed to change my wheel but had a guy with a rifle standing over me whilst I did it. No sudden movements etc. Rolling Eyes 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I've never really had much time for the French in general as often the impression is that the have much time for us (politicians at least) but when I watched that on the TV last night I really felt for the French as though they were my close friends felt so sorry for the poor folk that perished & their families. Time I think for our two countries to be so much closer & deal with that scum. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I have visited France for years and have some good friends there. I might soon even have one as a family member. I understand what you say but I think the issue is more about the fact that their politicians look after their own people more than ours do. They strike better deals with the EU or just ignore rules that they don't approve of. In the UK we seem to go along with every rule that comes out of Brussels. Have you ever looked for the foreign wine section in a French supermarket? It will have about 5 bottles of random wine from Germany or Spain, the 5,000 other bottles are French, same goes for Cheese and so on. Everything is labelled Fabrique en France. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

The problem is with terrorist attacks is that the law is inadequate, terrorists have learnt that they can run a campaign until governments start under the counter talks, what follows is agreements with the "former terrorists" and they get a new country somewhere where they train new terrorists for another campaign for another new country in alliance with "former terrorist countries". We now have a terrorist organisation that is comprised of the worst excesses of the "former terrorist countries" whether it is truly based on religion or just terrorism for its own sake, though it does seem to follow the Spanish with their Inquisition and world domination at that time using the same excesses.
Back in the 70's we had the PLO, the law was followed terrorism won by blackmailing countries with their members in prisons for their release with more terrorism, and the won. They now have their own country where ISIS really grew from and they are expanding. The Middle East is not a democratic region and never has been it also doesn't want to be. with ISIS/ISOL there is a group that use religion as the core of their terrorism, the problem is that in their own minds they are right and justified in these acts whether innocent civilians in France or the irregular or regular armies in the Middle East.
For all the talk of politicians, this time it may be that there is no option of prisoners, the Geneva Convention was not formulated for terrorism, it was formulated for warring countries with rules. I am sure they will be outcries that you cannot annihilate a complete terrorist group, but it is the only answer, Jihadie John and Osama Bin Laden indicate there possibly is such a policy in the higher echelons of the organisation.
No spitting of hairs Al Qaeda and ISIS are one of the same just the name evolves, they are the same followers with the same aim, the destruction of the civilised world as we know it and absolute power for its leaders, in some ways similar to the Nazi Party and Communism in their worst excesses. Certainly the failure to deal with the early PLO leaders has lead to this, but the UK didn't help making Mau Mua leaders the new Kenyan government and continued in the same vein in Africa. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I heard last night, dont know if its correct or not, but apparently they were saying one of the gunmen was French, or live in France and the security forces had now gone and arrested his family and taken them away.
Perhaps if they started carting away the families of these terrorists and deporting them to live on an island in the middle of the Pacific, give them a weeks supply of food of course, we dont want to breach their human rights, they might think a little about the consequences to their their families before doing this type of thing?

Hmmm indeed, but at the moment these fanatics only have guns and small amounts of explosives their folk are using in other countries to try and cause mayhem, how long before they break into one of these biohazard labs and start taking these deadly viruses to contaminate water supplies or start letting off airbourne chemicals or worst still take something nuclear??
Of course the nobs etc will be straight down their bunkers, did you notice how quickly they wisked away the French Prime Minister from the scene and sod all those left behind??

I think that is slightly unfair on the French President. He left; and was not shown on TV being hustled out surrounded by bodyguards - although they were there. I think he did the right thing. His country had been devastated by a series of terrorist actions - at that time the extent unclear to him. He left to be in a position of control and leadership of his country. I think he did that admirably.
Would you have criticised him more if he remained watching football whilst his countrymen died?

Its only going to get worse im afraid :/

Although I wouldnt enjoy it as such, I wouldnt complain if I was called up to fight these "people", I went to Iraq in 2006, I have a feeling that that was a walk in the park compared to what would go in fighting these creatures..

The UN Secretary General called for reaction within International Law, that is the problem, the terrorists do not acknowledge any law and rely on it to continue their murderous activities but expect to be treated as a legitimate fighting force when captured. The only safe terrorist is a dead terrorist. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
