Thanks chaps; I think I will have a specialist check both suspension and wheel alignment and see if that improves matters. Its a shame really, as the car is actually quite enjoyable to drive otherwise, even if the engine is a bit gruff! |

If its pulling one way or the other then its not been set correctly otherwise it wouldnt pull, providing its not due to the brakes or worn tyres. Has the car ever been involved in an accident? Does the steering self centre ok once youve completed a turn? |

I have a very similar thing on my 08 SE, which I just bought about 2 months ago. But I found out that if I drive on "horizontally and vertically" straight (flat) road, everything is fine. Once the camber of the road starts to change, the car starts to pull to either side. Can anyone relate? |

if a car does not drive in a straight line on a flat surface having had the alignment set, and tyre pressures and tyre wear checked, then there must be a mechanical issue, there can be no other explanation.

I remember years ago having a Morris Marina that would never drive in a straight line despite doing all the tracking etc. I eventually decided that the the lower suspension joints were worn so I decided to do both sides and took both items to the dealers to get new parts. It was at the part shop counter that I noticed that the two items were actually slightly different to the extent that it would make the steering geometry different on each side! As the car wasn't that old (but well out of warranty) we decided that it had probably been built that way! Another triumph for British engineering in the 70's ! 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

so it wasnt pulling to the right, you were steering to the right |

I was unwittingly doing so, apparently! |

Glad you had problem solved. Just thought this is worth mentioning as a common cause of steering pull.

Thanks for that - should the problem recur, that's exactly what I'll do! |
