As the title says, I've fitted a Genuine Land Rover Towbar Wiring Kit and, when I hook up my Cycle carrier lighboard, only the brake lights work.

I had same problem. The LR "specialist" equipment did not work so got refund and went to dealer. Proper kits got it working fine. £50 but about same cost as specialist.

Well, I tested it with another light board today and the result was the same, only the brake lights worked.

So, as expected, the dealer was able to program the towbar wiring correctly. It turns out that there are a number of programming kits available on the market, but the genuine Land Rover ones are about £20k each, so the specialists use cheaper ones that don't necessarily have all the codes.

Had a case in a fast tyre shop who happened to fit brake pads too, the owner of a Peugeot had taken his car there and they had done the job a lot cheaper than the main dealer could do it, however when they test drove it afterwards they couldnt get the brake warning light to turn off, the result was the car had to go to the main dealers anyway to have it reset with their computer and the cost of that wiped out any savings on the fitting of the new pads, so sometimes it inst always cheaper to use independents as they dont have the expensive equipment the main dealer has to do it right first time. You pays your money and takes your chance as they say?? |
