Private registration plate

I don't know if its because I drive one & have one but it seems that the vast majority of FL2s I see have a private registration, does that say something about us owners? I never had a private plate before , but the first thing I did when I bought the freelander was get one, I didn't pick it up from dealer until transfer had gone through & new post s were on , so I thought I'd start a poll to see if this theory is right..

Regardless of what brand of vehicle its on it hides the age and whats the puprose of having a random 7 digit plate on a car that means nothing you yourself. I purchased a 2x2 reg not that long ago and I've still not put it on my car yet! Ive got a few regs but this one is my initials and DOB Laughing

It was a habit of Range Rover owners, especially with the Classic as its shape was generally the same for many years, disguises the year, whether it originated in Aberdeen to appear to be a rich oil worker is moot, there weren't many Classics there on normal plates unless it was the current year. Thing is it can still be a private plate in the standard format if you picked the numbers letters yourself so not all private plates look like private plates but could be
I mean i could have PN65 PJN, my initials, still a private plate but no one knows it is.
Or i could maybe have PN1 obviously a private plate that says ive got more money than you have, lots is snob value i think
That said my FL has a 4 digit plate Laughing

my son bought a private plate for his 2013 registered car, it now on R** ALB which are his initials and soon to be age (by coincidence). He didn't want a meaningless plate or to make up something by illegally altering the letters and numbers.

so its a standard old style plate, but on a blatantly newer car. However it hides the fact the car could have been made between 2008 and 2013.

always fancied one, never had the money to buy the ones i wanted, then it ended up selling (5 NJP £6k)

@LRNUT, you should put that plate on the motor, then since you have already shown it, you dont need to put your yellow blobs on your photos Laughing Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have always regarded it as a sign of insecurity ie I don't want anyone to know that I am driving an old car, so it gives the game away immediately that this is in fact true. True some plates are truly unique like I saw an Arab once driving HA55AN or plates like SU5IE or ANN1E or X5 or MI5 KGB etc which I guess are very expensive but the majority, in my view, send out the wrong message. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Mine basically spells my surname without being illegal so has meaning for me and was a bargin at £200.
Never would have been vain enough to have one but it was a present from herself.
Does draw comment when people see the connection.

Yes. I've got a plate- 2 letters (my initials) & 4 digits.

First issued in 1919 so coming up to 100 yrs old.

If the letters come after the digits, that style of plate is called a reverse.

I did try the black/silver aluminium plates for a while but I couldn't stand the tension that I might get pulled over so I reverted to normal.

I quite the like the idea of vanity plates in the same way as I like seeing blue LED windscreen washers, it gives a warning to keep away from them.

Got one when a member of my family died a few years ago and I got a bit of money.

What I can't understand is the really expensive number plates such as a letter and a number only that are stuck to Fiestas or Astras and the like. The number plate is probably worth 100 times the cars value.
