Shut down issue

Right, yesterday and today when shutting down using the start button, the engine gave a quick but sudden and obvious shudder/shake as if it had just stalled.

Isn't doing it every time, typically.

A search on here suggests it could be the throttle body. I have an extended LR warranty so not concerned if something needs replaced but does anyone have any experience of taking a car with this symptom to an LR dealer can they/will they check anything even if the fault doesn't appear?

I have a rare free day tomorrow and could take it to the dealer but don't want to waste my day if there's no point

Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

Sounds like throttle body, why not call out LR Assist? They will read any fault codes and might even replace it on your drive. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Not aware I have LR Assist. Do you get that with a renewed extended LR warranty? FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

The last LR Assist guy I spoke to said that if you have AA breakdown cover they send the same guy out to LandRovers and Jaguars if he is available. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I have RAC but it isn't broken down so not sure I can pull that one.

If the throttle body would leave error codes that could be enough for me to take it in. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

Do you have stop start fitted?
I believe the system when working properly has a softer engine stop when the stop start is working compared to an engine without it fitted?
ie it controls the fuel flow better when shutting down to stop the roughness you can get with a non stop start diesel engine?
Might be a fault in that system?

I have start stop yes. The judder is something new - I've had the car for more than a year and never experienced it until yesterday. Really did feel as though I had stalled the car when pressing the start button to shut the engine down. Was in neutral at the time. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

We had a throttle body failure on our 10 reg model with stop start. The nylon gears had stripped inside and the symptoms sounded similar to yours. Also see www.freel2.com/forum/topic10246.html 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Took the car into the local main LR dealer and explained issue. Foreman came out and looked at car and I explained the issue. He has agreed it is likely the throttle body and so it is booked in for replacement under my extended warranty. I also suffer from intermittent hesitation pulling off as many others have and he said that was also a symptom of the throttle body. Will be interesting to see if it makes a difference. FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues

My Freelander sometimes shudders to a halt as you described and also sometimes stalls when cold whilst reversing down my drive could this be a failing throttle body. Question

Throttle body controls the shutdown and the EGR valve could be at fault if it stalls.

Our manual Freelander has no stuttering problems and runs well except for a jolt when the engine is switched off. We have also had the occasional cut out while running.

I read here about throttle body problems and this explained the short grinding noise when closing down. I was also concerned about the car cutting out and not restarting.

Changing the throttle body (took 45 mins) has made a difference. The grinding noise has gone and the car shuts off smoothly without the jolt. I suspect we were in the early stages of throttle body failure. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE 2010

Don't encourage me! Now that you mention it, it might be a good idea for our auto freelander which does have some problems. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE 2010
