Spare wheel storage

Hi guys

My HSE has a full sized (19") spare wheel under the cargo tray in the boot. Its locked into lace with e long rod. I've been thinking whether it would not be useful to turn this wheel upside down, cut this rod to size, then this would give me the inside of the wheel as additional storage.

anyone tried this?

I would imagine that the mounting point on the floor was too big to fit into the wheel and won't allow it too be fitted as such?

My Spare fits onto a polystyrene thingy which houses the jack. wheel brace and locking nut remover.
It seems quite a neat compact setup.
(Maybe your's is different I just noticed you have 2011..sorry)
Joe Fix it until it's broke !

Does the wheel just sit over it or do you attach it somehow?

The wheel sits over the jack kit and a long threaded rod with a hand wheel* secures the wheel. It is screwed into the threaded hole next to the jack securing bolt. Part Number LR002872

*The hand wheel also supports the centre of the cargo tray.

I have the standard 17 spare iron wheel and I turned it upside down as soon as I noticed the possibility to use the new space. Everything fine and jack is still in position. The only problem is if you really need to use the wheel, it is down down down...

Ah wonderful photo post thank you.

Just got my FL2 and previous Owner had everything loose in the back. Can't have metal parts jumping around there in the rough stuff. It's tightly packed in now. (I thought the washer welded to jack handle was an owner mod, turns out it's intentional).

Thank you.

The alloy wheel sits over the jack. Look closely and you can see the jack below the alloy.
