ex LR Metropolis price

What’s the benefit of buying an ex LR FL2 Metropolis which has come from the management car scheme? Local main dealer has found one within their group but it’s not advertised yet as it's new in. It’s said to be a standard spec Metropolis with factory fitted privacy glass.

I guess the benefit is it would have been looked after better with a view to exchange after a year. Also any faults would have been spotted sooner if the person has driven many Freelander’s over the years. 11k miles but the expected sale price is £33.5k. It’s just had its first service. Highest price currently on LR’s site is £32.5k for the same spec vehicle on slightly less miles. What do you think? Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer

Ex management cars are just as likely to be as good or bad as any other. It is quite possible that an FL2 was a second car used to ferry the kids about and will have kicks and scuffs all over the interior. Might have even come from the press fleet. Alternatively it could have done thousands of miles off road. On the other hand it could have been treasured. Like any car it depends who used it.

It will get the same "approved used" category as any other.

Forget it came from LR and treat it like any other.

Sorry but in my experience this ' Landover management car ' thing is bordering on a scam.

When we bought my wife's FL1 we were told the car was ' LR Management ' and I believed it.

When, a few years later, I bought my FL2 I was also told ' Landrover management car '. After I had bought it, I thought that it was a bit statistically suspicious that 2 out of the 2 Landrovers I bought from main dealers were supposedly owned by a 'manager' at Landrover and so I probed my FL2's history in some detail. I found out that it had been registered to a domestic address in a large town near the M40. As this was not far from Gaydon / Solihull it initially made sense.

However, when I goggled the address, to my surprise it came up as a registered address for THRIFTY CAR HIRE !

When I spoke to the LR salesman about this, he said yes it was ' managed by Landrover fleet management ' and was therefore a ' Landrover management car ' !!!!!!! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

I bought a one-owner car years ago and got caught out too. Allegedly, it belonged to a Dutchman. When I got the log book it was previously registered to Hertz VanRental. Whistle

To be fair, my last two (non LR) cars were both ex hire cars (Thrifty as it happens!). Both were a year old with 12k on the clock and both were flawless. The 10 plate Mondeo did 120k miles needing only servicing, tyres, brake pads and 2 wheel bearings before I sold it.

Just go on condition, forget where it came from. That's usually meaningless.

Mine, was also described as an LR management car and has an OV plate. The previous keeper is shown as JLR Ltd, Land Rover Company Vehicle MRC, Upper Heyford, Bicester, OX25 5HA. It may have been a rental fleet car, who knows...

The fact is, at one and a half years old when I bought it, with 7.5k miles and absolutely immaculate with a two year Land Rover warranty included, who cares.

my fl1 commercial was ex LR, confirmed on log book,

didnt make a great deal of difference the head gasket still failed

Was OK apart from that and a constant need to retighten the manifold to exhaust connection, replaced nuts a few times but it simply would not stay tight, on any other vehicle it would have rusted and seized solid Rolling Eyes At work

Interesting comments. I'm told it has an MCP source code which stands for Management Car Program. They seem confident it will have been "operated" by a LR employee. First owner being LR and the supplier Paragon Fleet Services. It will have been sourced by auction. If LR is really the first owner... will it have LR or JLR on the log book and will the dealer have the log book for me to see this? Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer

They should have the V5, though there is often some excuse for not letting you see it.

Not LR but my V40 shows Volvo Car UK Ltd as the previous keeper, not sure that it means much. For all I know it could have been a press demonstrator that did 50 laps of the Top Gear track (admittedly unlikely!)

It's a good car that was the right price though. Will be sad to see it go when the FL2 arrives next week.

£33.5K, gosh that is good news for Metropolis owners. I only paid £500 more last year when I bought mine new & I got roof rails, mud flaps & rubber boot mat. It seems common knowledge in the dealers & I was in one today having the first service that late FL2's especially the Metropolis are holding up very well value wise. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Dealer told me now they dont make them anymore the prices are holding good as theres no direct equivalent to replace them with as yet and some owners of Evoques have even reverted back to another FL again releasing theyve made a mistake.

I've been watching several. Black/grey/silver don't seem to hold the price as much. They're a bit cheaper than the FL2's with coloured paint. All in the same spec. Hippo's videos - Honorary Tratterer

As several have pointed out the "Management Car" is a bit of a con. They are nearly all ex Landrover Assistance courtesy vehicles if they can't repair yours so they will have been driven by all and sundry. The fleet is managed by Thrifty and they are the registered keeper. Forget the LR Management badge and just treat it like any other used vehicle. I paid £32K with 6K on the clock so I'd say yours was top end price. They are getting rarer via dealers so maybe that's pushing up the price.

I was told when I bought mine new & still get told this now that the most popular & sought after colour combination on the Metropolis is the Black with Ivory Nappa Leather. Which I have to say is what I have. Very Happy (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
