My kids love the purple pipe that seems to join all the average speed cameras together, miles of the damn stuff, they have got wise now and shout out "purple pipe" randomly , laughing if I go into a panic looking for speed camera's

I believe the purple pipework is for all telecoms cabling (matrix signs, phones, midas loops, weather devices etc)
Could be wrong though

however it sure beats ''I spy'' to keep the kids from moaning Laughing

I was cruising at 53mph today in the road works and got past a few times, they then slam on to do 50 and then off again, I'm sure they don't understand the term average speed

Make you wonder though Do they get tickets or know something We don't

yes they do get tickets over a certain tolerance (although that tolerance is now being brought down to 0% over the limit)

When they were widening the M1 between J28 and J25 for 3 years, they caught and prosecuted in the region of 5000 drivers I believe.

Motorbikes know that the cameras target the front plate, which they haven't got.
To continue the previous, yes normal rules apply, so you should keep to the nearside lane except when overtaking. You are not a policeman and if someone wants to overtake you by breaking the speed limit that is not your concern. Annoying isn't it?
I have been known though, when driving a large heavy vehicle, to pull out to overtake just in front of said people. That's not strictly legal either, but it can be highly amusing. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

The A9 works for making into dual carriageway are currently blessed with many miles of 40mph limit due to work to . . . . . ? Well, I can't see it, can anyone else?

If you use a road regularly and know you will not pass another average speed camera before your exit then the sky's the limit for some. Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

It was interesting on one of those traffic cop programmes on the Beeb the other night when a policeman stopped a woman doing 95 he said that the government tolerate 10% + 2mph. So that means 79 on the motorway which he agreed was the case.

Having worked on motorways installing lighting for several years I can tell you that one of the reasons for lane closures remaining in place whilst no work is being undertaken, is the cost of removal and then reinstatement for the next phase of works.

Also most work takes place on embankments/hard shoulders so Lane 1 is closed for access BUT Lane 2 is also closed for the safety of the operatives due to all the selfish mad sods who try to kill us (and in some cases succeed) due to their own selfish need to not understand that the work is taking place for their benefit.
