I can't quite believe these costs, how the **** do you get to £40 million to repair a clock?

£40M is small by today's standards, they will just add the costs to the ever expanding debt to which no one seems to own, beyond the reasoning of us mere mortals.

Would it not be cheaper to just replace the mechanism inside with a Rolex/Casio mechanism and employ a polish worker to hit the bell every hour a few times Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis |

I thought that Big Ben is actually just the name of the bell, the entity is called St Stephens Tower. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

It is indeed, the clock is the 'great Westminster clock' housed along with the bell 'Big Ben' inside St Stephens Tower. |
