Town Driving?

I'm going to stop working in a couple of months time.

Presently I do some pretty good journeys each month but....

when I stop it will be mostly town driving.

Now, I think I read on here (although a search reveals very little) that it's not particularly good for a 2.2 diesel to do lots of short trips - stop/start stuff.

Is that right? I'd like to keep the Freelander (the drop in mpg is far less of an issue) but I'd really like to know whether I'll be OK with it just around town ( occasional trip 30+ miles - very occasional trip 100+ miles).

Thanks.

I have done 18,000 in 3 years almost all urban except a few trips to the Lakes. Never seen the
DPF warning light at all. Seems to cope with it fine. Have now swapped to a D4 so will be doing
the same in that Thumbs Up SD4 HSE Orkney Grey

Nonsense - it'll be absolutely fine.

Your MPG will suffer as you've acknowledged, but the car will be fine.

I read somewhere that it's necessary to change the oil in the FL2 once a year regardless of mileage, presumably due to oil dilution from the DPF system. Does anyone know if this is true or is it a ruse to get more servicing business? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

If oil dilution is a problem a light will appear on the dash to warn you to change it. Smile

I wish I had read these posts before buying my old non-DPF one! I live and work in the countryside so mine rarely visits a dual carriageway not alone a motorway. My only experience with DPF was a 2 year old vauxhall signum. I changed jobs and went from doing 30000 miles a year on motorways to 5000 miles a year on country lanes. I had DPF problems about six months later. Vauxhall said it was down to the short, relatively low speed trips. This fits in with the majority of advice if you google DPF. Is the Land Rover design particularly good or is it just the low mileage of your cars meaning the problem has not yet raised it's head?
