Had a similar problem to this on mine. Changed the hoses to silicone ones, made no difference. Noise only on excelleration. Mine turned out to be the bearing failing in the turbo. New turbo fitted by independent turbo specialist ( £1300 ) problem solved.
Hope yours is not that but something to bare in mind. You can check my post for all the helpful suggestions I received. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !
Now retired so it doesn't matter anymore.
Freelander now gone.

That is why I asked if it was possible to check the end float of the turbo while changing the hoses or if you would need to remove the turbo. Any one know?

You can feel the end of the compressor fan with the hose disconnected, but to be honest this does not help much as the bearing requires pressurized oil to run correctly. Therefore you will feel a small amount of movement. Thumbs Up Now at the point when I learn something new something old is lost out the other side !

After 300 miles over the last two days the noise is even more noticeable, and there is a drop in power when under load. All the symptoms point to turbo and, in particular, hoses, so that's todays job!

Warning light came on on the way home last night, so that may help to diagnose the problem at the garage - I will pop it in to get that checked, as I bought a 'reader' but it wont show the fault codes (neither does one borrowed from a chum).

Update later...

Dave

Look forward to the update. Out of interest, how many miles has yours done?

92000 miles.

Had to take it to a local garage in the end. Bottom hose was blowing. The first garage said it was a blown turbo, at least £1000! Took a closer look myself and was sure it was the hose, but couldn't do it on the drive, so gave in and took it to a second garage who did a proper check, including error codes and found the leak.

Hose was £95 plus tax. A total of £288 to fit it and clear the errors.

I know it's over priced, but its done.

All running fine now.

Thanks for the advice and help, but I needed a ramp!

Dave
