I've just developed the dreaded droning sound on my 59 plate 89,000 mile FL2 - the noise is most prominant at around 32 to 45 mph for some reason. Yet to have it checked out to see if it's diff, bearings or indeed tyres but...

One of our FL2s going in next week for re-replacement (yes it failed again) wheel bearing, driver side rear replaced at 50k but started rumbling again after 15k miles. now on 70k and will be replaced under "component warranty" rather than extended warranty. I was thinking the other day that there can't be much rear wheel drive experience in Ford these days so I wonder where they got this underengineered design from? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

My 2007 started humming about twelve months ago. It started to get worse quickly when we returned from our caravan holiday in France. I decided to bite the bullet and have the diff repaired. I spoke to Paul at Stephensons Transmissions in Preston. He's rebuilt a few and thinks it's criminal that they are failing. Anyway, I dropped it off in the morning and collected it in the afternoon. What a difference, it's like a new car! Thank you very much to Paul and his colleagues Stephensons Transmissions. |

I have just been quoted over £1800.00 for a new rear diff. The LR specialist said they don't do diff repairs. Does anyone know if anywhere in Kent that will replace the bearings in the rear diff?

Have it taken out and sent off by courier to someone who can refurbish it with a warranty (noticed some names on this site now) if the locals don't feel up to the job. FL2 MY10 TD4 GS traded in at 2 years

Called into Local Dealer today to let them listen to my noise, yes you guessed it diff bearing needs doing, 62 plate, 26000 miles and 5 weeks out of LR warranty, not impressed, if this is a know fault why has there not been a recall. DB
