I have just had my MOT done and it has passed but with lots of advisories.

I have to have discs and pads all round & I am just about to buy these (all mintec) but wondered whether or not I should get the black plastic coating on the discs?

and also are these any good?

And finally, is this a decent price for the full set?





any advice would be greatly appreciated as I need to get these tomorrow ...

Do you mean Mintex?

If so, expect lots of dust and squealing in my experience - however they're quality items and work very well.

I had the black coating on he discs I bought for my old Focus ST, but that was because they were drilled/grooved discs and the black in the grooves/drill holes provided a better aesthetic - not sure it made any practical difference, and really not sure it would for non-drilled/grooved.

Common ones to fit to the FL2 are Pagid. Good quality items and easily available over the counter at most parts factors. I got mine through Halfords with my trade card for £160 all in - I'd expect to pay around £200 for bog standard retail Pagid discs and pads.

It is compared to Land Rover parts-I paid £170ish just for the fronts.

You'll probably need handbrake shoes as well, hand brake is a drum brake inside the rear disc, maybe even adjusters too At work

I bought a front set from this seller about 9 months ago they are Mtec and made in Ireland. On arrival i was really pleased, looked fantastic in black. When i tried to fit them the stud bore holes were 14mm, they should be 14.75mm, and there was no way they would fit over the stud shoulders. After several calls Mtec claimed they were correct spec but paid to have them uplifted and refunded in full. When I packed them up for uplift I cleaned them with a little brake cleaner and the coating started to lift. I would not recommend them. I then bought mintex discs, much cheaper and they fit and have performed perfectly since, about 10,000 miles so far.

I've just done the front discs and pads on my Freelander with Pagid products and I am very happy with them.

About £108 incl VAT for the lot from Euro Car Parts where they are currently on offer. Make sure you buy online for this price.

Rears come up at £120 incl Vat for discs and pads(but not handbrake shoes, which they don't list).

Apparently the Pirahna discs are MTEC but under a different brand name? They're dispatched from the same factory in Ireland???



Has anyone heard of the link between these two MTEC vs Pirahna
