Whilst waiting for greenflag..................

OK my Freelander 2 broke down yesterday! Called greenflag they arrived a couple of hours later.
So while waiting I had a look on the Internet to see if I could work out what was wrong. Of course freel2.com popped up and I came across a thread regarding an extra earth lead from the battery to the starter motor. (Was going to post a link but I can't find it now! )
Made very interesting reading so when I finaly got my car home again I carried out this mod. Now it might just be me but iam sure my car is running smoother.
Anyway my breakdown symptoms were the car juddering, (had happen a few times before but the car never came to a stop!) REP warning coming up then it just stopped! Luckily I was in a safe place. When the guy from green flag arrived he tried starting it and it fiered up on the button! He reved it up a few times and it did cut out again. Restarted first time. He came to the conclusion I should change the fuel filter as this could be causing the problem. So changed the filter and carried out the earth strap mod and as I say the car running sweet.
Could these simple things have caused my problems?

Obviously the fuel filter could cause the problem, did it look clogged?

The fuel filter is sealed unit I think. Just changed the whole thing.
Car is running really well now though.

There is a lot of rubbish fuel out there I am afraid - my 1-year old diesel BMW has been off the road for over a month due to fuel contamination and is still not fixed. FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green

I'm sure there are also some counterfeit fuel filters out there as well. I fitted one from a local parts agent and it clogged after about 1000 miles. When I changed it, the fuel that came out of it was really thick with what looked like disintegrated paper. I always use filters from Dan now and never had another problem. I change it every 15000 with an oil and oil filter change every 7500.
