That sounds about right to me I get slightly more sometimes and less others. Anything close to 40 is pretty good considering it's not too far off 2 ton and 4 wheel drive. Regards

Alan

Apologies if this has been asked on here before but it's quite a long thread to wade through...

I was wondering how the OBC calculates the average fuel consumption? Is it taking an average of the instananeous fuel consumption figure - I guess it must be linked to it somehow. If it is then it would explain why I calculate (based on fill to fill mileages) my MPG to be around 34 MPG whereas OBC reckons my average fuel consumption is 38.5 MPG. However my Freelander gets used on commute to work so a lot of stationary traffic - when if the instaneous fuel consumption is displayed is shows __._ - instaneous fuel consumption is only displayed when the wheels are rolling so presumably the OBC is not calculating fuel consumption for when the vehicle is not moving? (And no, the engine is still running...)

If I cared that much about fuel economy I wouldn't have bought a Freelander - particularly as my right boot is a bit heavy - but having a rough idea of MPG is useful as it can show when something's not running quite right - just I'm not sure how useful the OBC gauge actually is - I'd still rather brim the tank ( or at least fill to the second click ) and calculate from mileage covered myself.

2012 (MY 2011) TD4 manual XS - 34 mpg on Shell standard diesel -26500 miles (2000 miles covered since I got it so still getting used to driving her!)

Well Iam very pleased with the mpg of my car. Before I got it people were telling me the were very bad on fuel... But there again they had never owned one. For a big car I think it's really good.

Drove from my campsite (without caravan) to Brest about 100 miles , sitting at about 68 mph I got 41.5 mpg , the road was pretty flat , ever other motorway dual carriageways in Brittany are pretty hilly and I only get 37 mpg. Do it now ! Your a long time dead !!

England

Driving from Scotland to Dover and indicated 40.1, which equated to a brim to brim of 38.7, from Dunkeque onwards it dropped down to an indicated 36.0. The first car that has never bettered its MPG figures in hotter climes, perhaps it doesn't like continental diesel which is much more yellow than ours. On arrival in Dover on the way back it dropped to an indicated 35.9 and rose to 36.1 back in Scotland on French Carrefour fuel. Normally it runs on Shell regular, also known as Waitrose supermarket fuel Wink my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis
2012 HSE SD4 In Orkney Grey now gone, best car ever.

Well, a 150 mile round trip including city centre Manchester, Huddersfield and some steep hills in between: 49.6mpg! It did hit 50 at one point...

Were you slipstreaming an artic all the way?

I get low 30s on the SD4/Auto combo. I'm hoping things will improve as the engine loosens up.
