Auto box or drivetrain or electrical problem

Hi, me again, more problems. I searched but could not find anything similar.

Whilst doing about 40mph, down a hill in command shift (in 3rd), I was off the accelerator totally, as the road levelled out around a slight right hand bend I pressed the accelerator only a little and the revs dropped to near 0, the car then did what felt like 3 heavy applications of the brakes, each with a revs drop to zero, left doing about 15 mph, but engine recovered and then drove as normal. I never applied the brakes once, car almost came to a halt by itself when I gave a slight press to the accelerator.

It's almost as if the car had no idea what to do when pressing the gas pedal. It's an auto and I have had a very slight stubble occasionally when accelerating from coasting but this time it was much more severe, chest against seatbelt stuff this time. No lights came up on the dash, outside temp 17c.

Anyone else experienced this. I have had a few electrical gremlins since I bought it new in 2014. Currently have an alarm and locking issue.

Can I call Land Rover assist for this. Or will they say take it to the dealer. (Fed up of visiting dealer).

That sounds like really bad hesitation Sad. I experienced this quite a bit on my previous MY12 TD4 which used to do it between off/on throttle as well as when pulling out of a junction.

This is a well known fault so I would have thought a trip back to the dealer as you are still in warranty (even though you are fed up). Out of interest, I see you are in Kent, which dealer do you use?

You have the same car as me so I am a bit concerned you seem to have had such bad occurrence of hesitation on an SD4. I have only ever rarely had very slight hesitation off/on throttle within 3mins of starting.

Good luck.

I was using harwoods tonbridge and they would always pick the car up and drop it off, I have just moved to Gloucestershire now so need to find a new dealer somewhere near cirencester. I wil call the Land Rover assist on Sunday as if someone was behind me they could have rear ended me.

Also can anyone recommend a good dealer in Gloucestershire.

Cant help with the dealer but you should push the safety aspect of the problem. As you say, you could have been rear ended, and if you had had your family in it ....... etc.

I would definitely call LR Assist. I have used them a number of times. I called them a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday evening at home about a "reduced engine performance" message and they came within a couple of hours. They will will run diagnostics on the car and fix it if it's possible otherwise arrange for the car to be transported if necessary and arrange a courtesy car. I had a call the next day saying that a Jaguar XF was available at my chosen dealer. Evidently they then lean on the dealer to get it sorted asap. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

Will be interested to hear more. I haven't had the serious problem you have, but I'm definitely getting occasional hesitation on my MY13 SD4 on a gentle re-application of throttle. A bit of hard accel. seems to cure it. I also seem to be getting worse MPG of late - hovers around 31, but was more like 37 when I bought it. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

I had a similar, random braking problem, recently with my admittedly older TD4 due to a loose negative lead at the battery. There were also a few odd DTCs logged. I managed around 600 miles with the car in this state before discovering this!

Your problem is probably not the same but it's an easy thing to check.

Land Rover chap attended this morning, no faults stored for the engine hesitation, said this can happen if you left foot brake at the same time as accelerating. I know I don't do left foot braking so it is clearly not because of that.

Fault codes for other bits showing though.
Alarm fault B102B-S7 BCM - 14854 Passive key B112C-96 interior motion sensor
That will explain why the car beeps at me 4 times when unlocked and why i get the 'smart key not found message' every day.

So I will book in with the dealer and ask them to investigate hesitation and sort the alarm issue.

Hi,

The nearest one to me is M.J. FEWS, wooten under edge, I have no idea if they are any good but will try them out. They seemed very polite on the phone and are happy to liaise with customer relations on getting my paintwork issues fixed as well as all the other faults.

Are Stratstones in Cheltenham any good as they were my next option.

Yes, I forgot Fews were over that way.

I bought my FL2 at Stratstone Cheltenham and have had warranty repairs, other repairs and all my servicing done by them for 4 years - never had a problem with them at all although the courtesy cars were Mondeos ! FL2 HSE Auto Galway Green
