France 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Santorini Black

Exactly like mine !

So if the noise is still constant and did not amplify since 40 000 km, you don't have to worry about that. As for automatic gearboxes, beware because they have more serious problems (they are more complicated with electronics).

I hace a question (see my post about it) : Did you try to drive in Neutral on an uneven surface or small holes with windows open ? I have a knocking metallic noise when I do that. It is OK when I engage gears, knocking disappears.

Thanks

France 2012 Freelander 2 TD4 S Manual Santorini Black

Hi to all !

For information, I'm driving this car since 1 year and 20 000 km on mountains and hignways and the clutch is OK. The dealer said it is still like new.

So don't drive a manual in neutral on uneven surface because you'll have knocking noise and rattle for the same reason mentioned by Alex in the other post :

"What's different between on gear and neutral is the fact that when on neutral there is no connection between the engine and the road and all drivetrain components are rotating each with its own speed.
When on gear there is a physical connection between road and engine and all components are somehow working one against each other and there is a tension between them, quite the opposite from when in neutral when all are "loose".
So that tension could neutralize a possible "play" between some components and the sound can be from anywhere on the drivetrain... "
