Rear Shock Replacement.

Has anybody changed rear shock absorbers.? I have taken the interior trim out ready to do tomorrow. The picture shows the nuts that I needed to get to... Do I loosen the three nuts showing? Silly question maybe... There is a nut on top of the shock under black plastic cover ..is it just that one?

I have searched here for instruction. Found a couple of threads but looking for more detailed if anyone can help? Much appreciated... Never done it before but bugggered if I am paying garage prices Smile

Thanks Graham.

It's the 3 nuts to remove the leg the one in the middle puts the tension on the shock.

Paul thank you...

Is this something you have done yourself...I am thinking it won't be too difficult. But am setting aside at least 3-4 hours haha...Probably will come across something to annoy me Smile

Yes I've replaced all 4 of mine and the rears are definitely easier.i did mine on my own on the drive. And took about an afternoon to do each end. The best tool I had was a big bar which I used to leaver the hub down far enough so as I wouldn't have to remove anything I didn't need to.

Hi.

Well i managed to get this job done easily enough. It was not the three nuts that needed undoing as i shown in the picture. Just the one under the black cap.

I did not take any pictures (sorry) but the PDF that was kindly provided by cqr was great. It shows good detail in images and gives you an idea how its going to come apart etc.

I basically removed the trim (20 mins) to get access to the main bolt. Jacked the car up and removed the wheel. Clamped the spring. I am not a mechanic by any means but its simple to see what needs undoing. Two screws holding the brake cables etc and a main bolt behind the shock and one holding a lever..Very straight forward.

A lever and a hammer was used to remove the main shock once i undid the bolt inside. A little 'force required' Used a couple of jacks later to help lift the lower arm etc and get the shock in place. All in all it took about 2 hours each side.

I replaced the main shock and some rubber parts. Made a huge difference obviously to the driving experience.Did both sides as always recommended.

Like i said i am no mechanic but it is certainly something you can do at home. I had an extra pair of hands which always helps.

I removed the 3 nuts on mine because I replaced the insulator that goes between the top bracket and the body.
