Could you get a pipe to cover both ends that you are joining together that fits tight enough to fit within the coupler, if you slit this pipe down its length then it would close down when you tighten the coupler? Would have thought that would be easier unless you have access to a flaring machine? |

It may just be easier to take it to a mechanic and get them to install it. It's not going to take that long and they can weld it in place properly. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Went into main dealer today with back box and clamp and met with head workshop technician. He tried to rattle gun the clamp/sleeve onto the back box and agreed it was not correct sleeve. He confirm that all LR's utilize this method and that it was suppose to just slide over each end of the pipe and clamp. Interestingly the parts department had ordered another sleeve which was identical.

Or if you want to expand the pipe yourself:

Whilst the Evoque system is exactly the same the box is tilted at a different angle, hanger locations are different and outlet pipes are closer together than the Freelander.

Oh wow, cool tool, didn't know you could get one! Thxs Lightwater ![]() If I have to flare the pipe then I'll probably go to my trusty LR guy to help me. I'm 99% sure I'll use the LR clamp as long as I can get correct part! Looking at images using an 'exhaust band clamp' it still looks like one pipe has been flared and the clamp goes over the top with half of the band covering the flared end (female) of the pipe and half of the band covering the other pipe (male) which was not flared. This would make the join of the pipes very stable.

According to the head workshop technician today no flaring was necessary and that the sleeve is what they use on all the replacement box's on LR's and that the one I had from the parts department was wrong.

The band in the various images do seem to be much thinner material than this one. Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

If your referring to the above picture the LR sleeve is a robust piece of Stainless Steel. Quite up to the job, probably over engineered which I don't mind.
