FWD or RWD

Hi, I have just bought a Freelander 2 and wondered in normal drive mode is it fwd or rwd ?

As Archie said, it is all 4 wheels, all the time. You cannot change that. Unless you bought the eD4 model which is front wheel drive only (not confused with the TD4e model). FL2 TD4 GS 60 reg Facelift - so many issues
2019 DS. Terribly unreliable.
Sold DS for a 2021 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Fingers crossed....
Sold Outlander for a 2014 SD4 SE Tech because I’m mental
Now greatly regret selling the Outlander. MPG of the FL2 is atrocious and so are the fuel bills. Fun though 😎
Couldn’t afford the fuel bills so back to an older Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV. Significantly better than I remembered it to be…

As others have said it's all 4 but it is an intelligent four wheel drive system and varies the distribution of drive between front and rear depending on what the vehicle senses is the optimum at that moment.

technically only 2wd until a wheel slip occurs so its 2wd when you only need that , 4wd when you need more. well 95% front 5% rear varying to 50:50.
always 50:50 from standing start

there is/was a smarter transmission for evoque/discosport that turned off the rear drive all together when not needed, it seems to have gone from options list, but it seemed a bit technology for technologies sake At work

If I remember correctly, in normal driving, the majority is to the front wheels with only a small percentage to the back but, as others have said, the Terrain Response System will vary that as required.

My old Vitara was rear wheel in normal driving mode with a manual transfer box. Always made for good fun on a frosty morning if you went round a corner and put your foot down! Twisted Evil

Those numbers are for anyone to be satisfied that he/she's got an answer...
The truth is a little bit more complex.

For example, that 60/40 when accelerates is not by a chance 60/40 if you take off / accelerate with the front wheels turned, for example when you enter a main street from a secondary, perpendicular one.
If it was so, then the transmission would have a very short life because of the transmission wind-up on a 60/40 case.

So the thing is that the 4x4 system is an intelligent one and it doesn't take into account only throttle/brake push.
It takes into account much more like steering wheel angle, lateral accelerations, engine torque, etc. and varies accordingly the front / rear torque distribution.
