Great post - read it all!

I don't have rails as like being able to take them off. That means i've got Thrule clamped roof bars.
Is the general consensus that a roof tent would be ok with these too?

Perhaps I could get a third bar?

For SWL maybe a few more cross bars. These days for me it's going to be a static load!

There is an inverse law for SWL vs age/SL: Each decade older one gets, one less cross bar is needed to the point where one can't actually get onto the roof to start with!

So whether SWL or even SL, it could be a mute point from my perspective. No cross bars are actually needed, but nevertheless I have put 2 cross bars up there to keep up appearances! Procrastination, mankind's greatest labour saving device!

Some feedback, had a lengthy trip to Namibia and Botswana, and the rooftop tent was great.

The Landrover rails with Thule clamps worked well, no real problems, just had to tighten the clamps at one stage when the tent moved a bit. After that it was fine, in spite of rough and very corrugated roads.

The tent itself was great, and very convenient and comfortable.

I have now taken the tent off, until the next trip, but will leave the Landrover rails on.

I will try to post some photos.
