I had the same problem found out there is a small black o ring on the washer jet which has to be refitted before re assembly

I'm suffering a leak from the rear light seal . I don't want an ineffectual repair like the original author of this post. Has anyone come with a fix that works and still allows the light to be replaced if required at a later date .I have a 14 my HSE.

check the small O ring that fits over the washer jet it is probably missing after you change the hl brake light the water is from the washer jet when used

It needs a thicker gasket and the light be screwed in place ideally, the original gasket is too thin and the light is only a press/clip in place and can be moved still even when clipped in properly, bad design really.
I used a run of black windscreen mastic around the hole then pressed the light in place, its now fixed firmly and doesnt leak.

I’ve read the previous posts with interest. My MY13 has leaked once previously and having read over time that it’s a KNOWN problem I’ve just applied silicone to the gasket (changed the bulb as a precaution at the time).
Last night driving home following the heavy rain, I noticed a familiar tiny streak of water travelling down the inside of the rear window. Now I didn’t use the rear washer at the time but this morning when I took the light fitting apart I noticed that water had got inside the light unit. Took the light unit into the garage and dried it out and refitted this afternoon with more silicone sealant to the gasket and also the area where the clear lens fastens / bonds to the rest of the light housing. Job done again, I thought.
Now having read this topic, I notice there should be an ‘O’ ring on the washes jet. Mine didn’t have this. Does anyone have a part number or is the ‘O’ ring supplied as part of the light unit or washer jet nozzle?
Interestingly, I never had a problem with my old MY2007.
I agree with Landiromer, it's a poor design when the light fitting can be move when in clipped place.

My mate who owns his own garage fitted Polyurethane Expanding Foam Sealing Tape to my rear light it expands and stops all the water entering the brake light.

Thanks for all the replies ....the expanding foamTAPE sounds perfect. . I am assuming that when the pressure is applied and the clips are in place the foam expands and makes the whole fitting tight and water proof. I have not attempted to do anything yet and as in warranty will give LR first go but believe may well be better off with the expanding foam tape.I'm impressed with the sound of this solution . My problem is definitely the weather water ingress rather then the washer . I am a bit worried now though that the o ring problem might effect me after the unit is replaced . Got it booked in for Thursday and see what happens . JUST LIKE TO ADD THIS IS A CRACKING SIGHT WITH MANY USERS GIVING HELPFUL TIPS

The expanding tape that is being discussed sounds very similar to Compriband which is used in the construction industry. This tape expands to create a waterproof seal and has been used for quite a few years in the UK.

Well been to the doctors and all good as new on warranty no rain ingress or faulty washer so o ring fitting must have been done as well. Light is now solid in its housing where appeared fairly loose before .. As a bonus got a discovery sport to drive which had more room than I thought ( I'm a large chap) cumfy and filled to the brim with tech.Nice drive . Still like my freelander best which came back spotless from Granger at Royal Wootton Bassett
