The Disco is bigger and probably heavier though

I don't think there are too many 2.8 tonne Freelanders around, even if they are tricked up with every extra they couldn't reach the base D3's unladen weight. F2 also has considerably less frontal area so the drag is less How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Has anyone manually calculated their mpg to cross check the trip computer? I've often found on many cars the accuracy to be only marginal at best.

Just wondering what I can really expect to see.

As mentioned by NP I'm the forum anorak !! I have 42,000 miles of records to refer to. I have been surprised how accurate the computer appears to be. My experience is that its good for 0.2 - 0.3 mpg against full to full calculations. Probably the only rider I should add is that comparisons have always been over at least 300 miles or more. Stornoway Grey GS ... What a fine motor Smile ... but not any more ... Big Cry ... psst look at my gallery!
Company cars ... a thing of the past - May 2013.

I am seeing a bit more difference between fill-to-fill and trip computer. Just over 5400 miles done and 10 tank fills have given me an overall average of 40.2 (all miles divided by all fuel used) and the average of the 10 trip computer readings is 41.9.

Looking at each fill, the difference from trip computer does vary and that may be something to do with the tolerance that fuel pumps are allowed to have (they can dispense less than they read!). I leave the nozzle right in and after it clicks off, pull the trigger 5 more times. If I could always use the same pump it would help.

Closest was 0.57 mpg and worst was 2.88 - trip computer always showing more economical that calculated.

Can't complain though, I got 629 miles from the last tankful and was showing 24 miles left. Despite that I still got 67.68 L into a nominal 68 litre tank.

Cheers
