I don't understand how air con can have an eco position? The compressor is either on or off not halfway. During use the compressor will cut in and out thermostatically depending on the temp of the air con matrix. The compressor can only work at one setting
To my mind eco can only mean air-con off, what car had the eco system Avtur? At work

The car was a (2004) Mazda 6 Estate. I understand your logic and agree with it. But my experience was that I could achieve temperatures that were lower than ambient using economy mode which indicated that the a/c was providing a cooling effect.

I think the lowest temp you could dial up was 14c, and it would certainly blow 'very cold' (not a scientific measurment I know) on a days when the ambiemt was 23-24c. If I selected full a/c the blower would run faster ???

Chicken George - Your comment regarding A/C compressors can be on or off is not true. Yes, older compressor were the fixed displacement type where they would be cycled on/off by a clutch cycling switch to maintain a constant evaporator air off temperaature. Newer compressors are internally variable where the displacement would be reduced if the system pressure differences are low (i.e. the system isn't having to work hard). On SI6 engine, the compressor is variable electronically giving the required cooling only when needed.
Avtur - Just because you select A/C off (i.e. ECON), that doesn't mean the compressor is off. Many Japenese OEM's will keep A/C on if the ECU determines that its needed, e.g. if there is a high chance of misting occuring.

all knowledge is good Thumbs Up but does the fl2 have this newer type compressor?
but why bother inventing variable displacement compressors when all you are doing is topping up the chiller matrix? not arguing with you as you seem to know the answers, just wanting to know the reasons Thumbs Up At work

Has anyone manually calculated their mpg to cross check the trip computer? I've often found on many cars the accuracy to be only marginal at best.

Just wondering what I can really expect to see.
