The problem (and I speak as someone who uses 2SO because my MOT exhaust test results convinced me it was good for my motor) is that this test doesn't involve burning the mix in a turbo diesel engine for an extended period then dismantling and examining the component parts for damage, wear, clogging up whatever.

Those who think adding 2SO is either pointless or even potentially engine damaging will therefore say it proves nothing as running an engine on the mix is not the same as a simple wear test on a ball bearing - and they will be correct of course.

Truth is no-one will ever do the test research needed to answer the question. It would be too costly and no-one would obviously gain anything (apart from us consumers of course)

Those of us who try it and like the results, be they quieter engine, improved MPG, improved emission results, occasional claims / evidence of really clean engine innards will continue to extol its virtues and tose who don't like the idea will continue not to like the idea!!!!

The personal and aggresive nature of some of the posts on this subject are, of course, just another mystery surrounding the use of 2SO! Confused

The way I see it is fuel companies make the diesel fuel to a MINIMUM standard required for lubricity since Sulfur is being removed for emissions.

The additive they add to replace the lost Sulfur for all we know might be 2SO.

The anecdotal evidence suggests quieter engines which suggest an increase in lubricity. To some degree the tests show an increase in Lubricity by adding 2SO.

So wouldn't it be a benefit? You don't use the cheapest engine oil, which is made to a minimum standard.

and due to the lack on money to be spent on investigating this wonder dose of miracle oil, this thread will just keep going round in circles to the last combustion engine dies on its last splutter of life

I added it and the results were amazing, Very Happy
I added and found it made no difference, Neutral

I have used 2 stroke since reading Alex's post and Yamaha-fans post.There is a definate improvement in economy and emissions. Car has just had its MOT and passed on the emissions on the first cycle. MOT fast pass. Very Happy

I get mine from 'newsawchains.co.uk' origon semi synthetic 5lts £25 including delivery. Thumbs Up

You should expect a fast pass on any reasonably modern car! Mine also got a fast pass at 0.32 (just over one fifth of the fast pass standard) with no DPF and having never used 2-stroke or any other additive. That's more than good enough for me, so I'll not be bothering with 2-stroke!

I run it in my Disco 3, and wifeys Freelander 2

After having had to replace a set of 6 injectors in my Disco, due to wear and tear, any added lubrication can only be a good thing Thumbs Up

Now 6 full months since using TS0 in my 07 non DPF Audi A6 C6 tiptronic 3.0 quattro that has covered 34k miles in my 3yrs of ownership. I certainly don't think that diesel engines 'loosen up' any more after 80k miles?

I've also now (at last fill-up) discovered that the max DIS reading for range is 1015 miles, the computer simply won't go any higher! I've never hit that reading before and have my TSO premixed with 150ml of millers ecomax and 4l of diesel ready to dump in the tank before filling up at Tesco tomorrow.

Even better news is that the diesel price is down to £1.13ppl and I have a 20ppl voucher off to use, meaning that my 100 litres (I fill jerry cans to get the full redemption) will cost me 0.93ppl/£93

Happy Days!! Laughing

PS: I confuddled by this 'proof thing' a little, for me my car has lower emissions (proven by MOT exhaust emissions equipment that is calibrated by VOSA) and proven by highest range and economy figures I have ever achieved and my uber economic driving style has not changed.

I start putting 2-stroke oil recently, I'm planning to continue for a while adding 250ml to 50 litres of diesel...

Bimmer, that made for a good read, from what I've read of the article it seems that the practice of adding TSO can be detrimental to your injectors...with no real benefits.

I am always a little sceptical when it comes to oil companies commissioning and paying for such research (namely Sasol Southern Africa Energy).

I would guess that we would have to hear from multiple TSO adding customers reporting injector failure to understand if there is any credence to this stance.

You're right. I just put a tester on my car yesterday and since I start adding 2T oil.. about/around 4000 miles ago;) I looked at injectors yesterday AND they're working very close to each other Wink I asked others, and they said their're fine; within expected working "zone".

I'll keep monitoring (by taking sample values every few thousands miles and I'll report it back HERE as things develop.

My car has only 195k miles..
