I was convinced I had a worn differential bearing and/or worn wheel bearings. However, when I changed the worn rear tyres (Goodyear wranglers) the hum disappeared completely. I was astonished as I was convinced the hum was mechanical. - 2007(57) XS Auto, Rimini Red, Alpaca Leather.

When you have MT tyres, you start to differentiate between the different types of 'hums'... My Ride: Clickety-click |

Your car is a 2010 and done 75000 miles, classic for a diff pinion bearing, mine was the same, if its humming and it is the diff bearing you will soon know, its goes from a slight hum to a whine to quite a lot of whine inside 300 miles.

Thank you all for the help , when i looked i found that the back tires need to be replaced , but the humming sound i feel it is under the back seats.
and my car VIN is between these VIN's , so is it so critical thing that i have to sell the car ? or i can keep it for the next 5 years or for the next 115K Mile ( today ODOMETER reading is 75K mile , and in the next 5 years will be 115K+75K=190K mile ) because now days there is an offer to trade my car in a used cars dealer in my home for another SUV , so i am thinking shall i keep it, there is no big issues or high price maintenance cost in the next 5 years for my LR2 , or shall i go for the trade offer. i love my LR2 so much but i am scared from the rear differential issues and i dont know is it expensive to fix it or not |

As a tempory measure, swap front and rear tyres. If it is the tyres there will be a change in the noise, you will then have your answer. If not put them back where they were and move onto next easiest problem solving method. Make sure you return the tyres to original axles regardless.

The rear diff/pinion bearing is a quite common fault. Just had mine replaced on my wife's 08 freelander 2 which has covered 87,000 miles. Usually costs around £600. Ouch!! £600 for a defective £30 bearing. It seems that we pay for Land Rovers mistakes. Regarding possible future issues. In my experience with the Freelander 2, covering 20,000 miles over a 3 year period. Its been quite expensive to repair, with quite a few faults. Not including wear & tear items, such as brake pads & discs. I've replaced the battery, wheel bearing hub, fuel anti shudder cut off motor, now rear diff repair. Landy has now gone. Hi al3jeel, I'm happy that my post helped you. When you will repair the differential bearing, they will change them for an improved type. So you will not have to worry and replace them few years after. It is well explained in the technical bulletin in my gallery. But beware, when they will replace the bearings they have to check something with the haldex or upgrade the software. Because there is an impact from the defective bearings on the haldex box and if not repaired precisely as in LR technical bulletin you may have to replace the haldex in a few months. Read all my other posts on this subject and you will understand. Cheers ! Freelander 2 TD4 S / Santorini black / Genuine factory GPS with Bluetooth phone connection / Front and Rear parking aids |

Have just had this repair done at just under 55K on the clock. As far as I know, parts have been replaced like for like, so I'll start saving to pay for this again in another 5 years!
