A noise has developed over the past few days. When reversing into a parking space or onto my drive after probably one revolution of the wheels there's a clunk from mid-rear underside. At first it felt like something falling over in the boot space. But today it sounded more of a metallic 'clunk'. it's almost as if one wheel is slipping momentarily.

Hmmm dont really know about that, but its obviously not right and I would take it straight to the dealers for their opinion as if its a bearing or gear going it might damage things beyond all repair and you end up needing a complete new diff etc, and that would be more expensive than just a bearing say.

I will have a go in a TR mode. It looks as though others are experiencing a jolt from the Haldex on another thread. I may be worrying about nothing.

Maybe, mine doesnt knock or jolt though so they arent all like it and as you say youve only just noticed it? just as the warranty ended unfortunately, if it was normal surely you would have noticed from the word go and questioned it then??

I had another look/go with it this evening. The clunk is there as a repetitive noise now in forward motion most noticeable when turning left. It's a bit like a cv joint type noise. If that's the case then it's an easy fix. The thing is I'm not getting any fault lights or messages. A bit of a puzzler 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten)

I did take her down a rutted track a week or so back, the same one I have been down before a couple of times, hardly taxing I would have thought. I used HDC only as traction isn't an issue down this lane. 2010MY 2.2 e4 (gone but, not forgotten) Audi TT Roadster 3.2 DSG FFRR Westminster 4.4 TDV8 (L322) |

If it was a wheel bearing or drive shaft joint you wouldnt get any warning messages, I dont think the system is that clever it can detect all faults that may occur wherever?

Yes, the 'brain' can only react to the info sensors can give it. So something mechanical such as pinion wear or UJ's won't flag up. That's why I'm thinking its not necessarily the Haldex. There's a worm in my brain suggesting CV joint - needs more checking.

Took some video this afternoon. With rear wheel off the ground we span it. there is a hell of a noise. Only the odd clunk heard in the cabin though. A vid showing (not clearly) the play in the main prop going into the Haldex, is this within limits? Also a vid of the play of the union going into the diff, its the same both sides. I am applying up and down force and the movement is alarming. Is this within limits? No such play on the fronts by the way.
