On this model of Terrain Response every time you get into the vehicle it resets to General mode so I don't know how you would be driving around normally with this mode selected unless you have made an conscious decision to do so.
It's certainly advised against by LR unless the condition call for Special Program's Selection. MY15

I use it, on my last FL2 and on this one, my view is that if its there it's to be used, of course some modes are stressful to the car, sand mode all the time, while fun, would be destructive. GGS is very good in traffic jams, smooths the journey and the low speeds will hardly tear the system apart.

My view on those who drive around unknowing of what mode the car is in deserve any fault caused, they probably also drive around with faults, blown lamps, incorrect tyre pressures etc. if they can't be bothered to check before they drive off and take note of the instrument display when driving then they shouldn't be behind the wheel, a train or bus would be a better option for them clearing the road for 'drivers'.

Well said Paul Thumbs Up Any good driver should feel that the car handles differently and the steering wheel will be more heavy! I mainly use GGS for driving on Forestry Commission tracks when assisting on rallies and also when pitching my caravan on fields for caravan rallies.
No problems in 46k miles. Thant's the kiss of death then mentioning mileage. Laughing

On a LR Experience day, the 'expert'advised me to use GGS in heavy traffic to modify the throttle response and increase anti-stall when crawling along. He also pointed out that Sand mode is best for quick getaways at the lights!

Have to say as a country boy GGS is on regularly on farm tracks and came in handy at Holkham country fair last weekend on very wet meadow grass. I use mud & ruts less often, but use HDC everytime I go in a multi-storey car park, because I can!

Firstly, selecting "sand" mode just alters the linear map of the electronic throttle and doesn't magically give your more HP or torque just more throttle with less foot pressure earlier.
Secondly at standstill the haldex is engaged and anyways is so quick to respond to slip, even more so with Gen IV, it wouldn't need to be, so selecting "sand" mode for quicker getaways at the lights is garbage!
It just may feel like it!
The system is that sophisticated I don't know why you'd bother unless the terrain gets difficult. MY15
