removing protective side mouldings

Hi guys, my first topic

So I want to remove the plastic side mouldings from my freelander. I have been told by a friend that after a spray with WD40 followed by a quick zizz with a hairdryer/heat gun should allow them to be levered straight off. Is it just normal body work underneath? no holes? Is this something the LR garage would do for me? any thoughts/ input would be appreciated!!

They just adheared to the bodywork by 3m automotive tape. Will just pull off, no holes in bodywork underneath Thumbs Up
Otherwise use floss tape or fishing line to run between the bodywork and moulding to remove. Use WD40 to clean any tape residue. MY15

I think the trick is to heat them first with a hairdryer, start at one end and pull. Fishing line will cut between the protective strip and bodywork but will leave behind adhesive. I don't think you need to worry about peeling paint off unless it's had a doggy paint repair in the past. Fishing line is best if you are concerned! Otherwise heat and pull!😱😂 the adhesive is only on the top and Bottom edges of the mould. Good luck Thumbs Up MY15

Some thin tough nylon string to go between the trim and body and use a sawing action to slice though the adhesive strip, works great, no pulling and tugging, then just remove the remnant adhesives by soaking with white spirits.
This method is good for removing badges and number plates easily too.

Dental floss - it's thin and it's strong. Used to use it in the trade to de-badge cars without damaging paintwork.

Maybe to get them painted body colour? then stuck them back on

I would definitely fit them if I had some in body colour, but Im not buying any.

Saved doors from uncarefull people in carparks
I had them fitted to both cars I have had.
There are plenty of pictures around to see what they look like without.
They are expensive and worth every penny over a dent. No way I would remove them.

Same here. I have a black car so ok as they are but if fitting to any other colour I'd have them painted to match.
