Number plate fixings

I will need to change plates soon using a number plate surround on the rear. The current plates are stuck on with double sided tape. Can anyone tell me if there are pre-drilled mounting holes underneath the rear plate?
I'm less bothered about the front because hopefully I'll be able to use the existing fixings for the number plate mount.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi,
The rear has 2 fixings for screws but the front has none.

Hope that helps.

Glyn Jones.

Thanks Glyn, that's what I had hoped. How is the front mount fixed, do you know?

Tom

Hi,
I have mine just screwed into the plastic. The dealership had used double sided tape but I noticed that originally a plate had been put on using screws so I just reused those holes.

Like I said not a factory pre drill.

The standard length front plate needs a screw fixing each end, the bumper has a slight curved profile and if you use normal double tape/pads to hold it in it will come off in hot sunshine as the plate tries the straighten itself back flat, then you run the risk of it dropping off.
Also when going fast through deep puddles at the roadside this causes a wave to go vertically up the front over the bonnet, this too can rip off a front numberplate thats not held on really securely.
You could get away with tape on a front plate if your numberplates really short like mine, 3 digits, then the curve of the bumper doesnt really come into play.

The rear can be stuck on no problem as the surface it mounts to is totally flat.

I've had the back plate off, cleaned off the tape and will fix a plastic surround using the original screw fixing points. For fixing metal pressed plates direct to the bodywork there's little option. In front the plastic mount is screwed to the bumber so there'll be no problem with screwing the front plate directly to the mount.

Thanks for your replies and nice to be back among a helpful community after a 6 year absence Thumbs Up
