168k, that's more like it! Would you know if this is the first time it's had the problem? Have you ever maintained the diff? |

littletriple, as far as I know it has never been changed before, when I bought it about three and a half years ago it had full Landrover service history and all the paperwork from new but there was no sign of the diff been changed previously. |

You sure it's the Diff, it normally deteriates very quickly i.e. 500 miles, not 11k later. In 500 miles, mine went from, is that a whine to being unbearable.

Mine started with a whine that could be mistaken for tyre noise but within a few hundred miles became loud enough to require raising your voice to be heard. However I got used to it and eventually had the low level repair carried out some 10k miles later. Cost was 412 pounds including Haldex fluid change at Team Valley Landrover, still quiet 15k later (95k). |

I've done 20K in mine in just over 2 years and it's now on 85K. Apart from tyres, brakes and battery (which was changed just as a preventative measure before last winter because it was 7 years old), all I have had go wrong with it was the throttle body. Cost me £100 and I fitted it myself. Oh, and again as a preventative measure I changed the power steering reservoir and fluid. I do change the engine oil every 6 months and regularly check the other fluid levels though. |

I thought my rear diff had gone but it turned out to be tyre noise. I had a set of General Grabbers on at the time, they were needing replaced and I fitted a set of Vredsteins now no noise and My Freelander 2 is just about to hit the 185000 mile mark therefore I am a happy Landy owner and would buy another without hesitation. |

Nothing else except the routine service. I take mine to an approved independant Land Rover service garage and they charge almost half the rates of the dealers. I just remembered I had to change the rear wiper motor in December last year which cost me 68 pounds and I fitted it myself in about 15 minutes.

Hi every one .... please forgive me for sounding a bit un-knowledgeable with Tech part names! What exactly do you mean by rear deferential problems? Is it some thing to do with a certain pump? or the actual gear assembly at the back axle? |
