I've had my FL2 2007 HSE for almost a week now and love it, it's a little more thirsty than I hoped I think but the only problem I've come across up untill now is the auto lights stay on all the time the ignition is on so I presume this is a sensor fault but no big problem I'll see what the dealer says.

I've still not quite got the hang of the Sat nav it's not like my Tom Tom.

Welcome to the forum Bizzie. You will find the enjoyable drive and great capabilities of the Freelander more than make up for the fuel consumption! Yes, the "crap nav" cannot hold a candle to a Tom Tom. I have both & use the TT when on long & unfamiliar routes
Let us know what fixed the Auto Lights - not a common fault.

Thanks dunkley201 I love driving it and just did a 200m round trip to see my daughter in Bolton got no back ache like I did in the Chevy I had before this car.

I had a Freelander 1 TD4 before the Chevy and always found it really comfortable on long journeys, the real test will be on Saturday when we travel From Scunthorpe to Scotland over 200 miles in one go.

I think that the sensor for the lights may be in the brake for the rear view mirror it doesn't look right to me but I will have to wait till I'm back from Scotland to see what the dealer says if it can be repaired under warrantee, if not I'll just use the manual switch.

Light sensor is on Dash where screen vents are! May not be fault as light delay is configurable and
Previous owner may have set up to stay on longer! Check your user manual under Headlamp delay. Just a thought. On earlier Fl2's I think you have to go to dealer to change in CCF, later models this is done via driver comand centre. MY15

It might have been set up for DRLs which have the headlights on all the time as there are no dedicated lights. Again a CCF setting.

2007 models didn't have DRL's fitted as standard. The light sensor is on the dash in the middle of the vents and is a preset sensitivity/time. I believe these settings can be adjusted by someone with the right diagnostics, or it may be a faulty sensor.

I had to have both my rain sensor and my light sensor changed by LR under warranty on my first 2007MY GS.

By "auto lights" we're talking about the auto setting for the headlights, yes? In which case the sensor is in the mounting for the rear view mirror, along with the rain sensor. From Topix:

so what is the smoked plastic dome in the middle of the dash ? always thought that was the light sensor and the rear view mirror housed the rain sensor ??

I'm not sure. Actually, isn't it a sensor for the aircon, to detect when the car is in direct sunlight and increase the cooling accordingly?

It is, btw, easy to verify the location of the light sensor - just turn on the ignition, set the lights to auto and (assuming they're off to start with) just cover the sensor and they'll come on. (I've just tried that to check it really does work!)

just been out to the car park and tried mine and I sit corrected, the light sensor is indeed on the windscreen along with the rain sensor.

So know I have no idea what the little plastic dome is for on the dash, unless as you say its a temperature sensor to regulate the climate control.

The accompanying diagram shows the sunload sensor to be the dome we're talking about.

The lights come on as soon as the ignition is turned on if the lights are set to auto, while was investigating the sensor today I noticed the plastic housing its in around the rear view mirror is loose and as soon as I touched it it came away in my hand so it looks as though someone has already been looking at it probably the previous owner.

Dose the HSE always come with auto rain sensing wipers as mine just seem to do intermittent wipe even if the screen is dry so could the sensor be U/S or is this just not fitted.

I'm not really bothered about auto wipers as I had them on a Skoda and they never seemed to work right either wiping too fast or not at all when really needed.
