Sometimes 'Limp Mode' on startup

Every once in a while, perhaps once every two or three weeks, the car starts but has no power. Engine runs fine, but drive doesn't engage. Or sometimes, engages just enough to pull out into traffic, but in a kind of limp mode that barely moves (dangerous!). It's very weird, I think I've once hit the start button and it solved it, tried running up and down through the gears again (It's an auto) but most of the time have to turn the car off and on again. Again, quite dangerous if you've just pulled out the roadside into traffic.

Any ideas anyone?

Yes that's it, the battery light stays on. Extra earth? I'll look into that, thanks

Sounds like the well known 2011 hesitation problem. What year is your car? 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto
5 x FL2 4 manual + 1 auto

My last car (MY10) used to do this... I eventually put the thing down to the car not completing its pre-start checks routine before being driven off - normally reversed out on tickover onto the roadway and then no response from the accelerator pedal.

One of the common features of each of these fairly infrequent events was the fuel gauge remained dead. Sometimes a moment of sit tight & don't panic gave the car a chance to catch up and all would be well. Other times, starter button either fixed it or shut the car down and then a normal restart did the job.

Never did get to the bottom of it but it was fairly infrequent and for me, only ever in a car park or outside my house as I reversed out into the cul-de-sac so it wasn't much of a concern.

Be interesting to know the cause and remedy though.

Mine's an 07.
I'd be eager to find a remedy too, of course. Luckily , it seems for all of us, it's quite a rare occurence. Iteresting it happend to a lot of people though
