I noticed a little windows symbol on the task bar of my PC. I've been given a free upgrade to Windows 10 in July. I thought it was a con but looking on the net it's all above board. People with windows 7 are being given the option from Microsoft of a free upgrade. Has anyone else seen this upgrade?

Windows 10 is allegedly to be the last major release of Windows. It will thereafter just evolve but it's a safe bet that evolution won't be free. If MS are giving Win10 away (which they are) it is because they need people to be tied in to it.

If you're running Windows 7 SP1 or Windows 8.1, you will be able to migrate for free to Windows 10 any time in the 12 months following launch (scheduled 29 Jul).

When my Win7 laptop died just before Xmas I bought a 8.1 laptop which was crap compared with the 7 version some problems were the PC others 8.1, I quickly realised that I should have bought a touch screen version. The OH's died last week, and we replaced it with a touch screen version, many of the pain in the neck operating glitches have now gone. Seems that PC's need to be operated like phones with the new windows, which for office may be a problem, unless of course you are under 21 and preferably 12. Hopefully mine may improve with 10. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

Windows 8 and beyond are geared to touch devices, so a unified OS for all Windows devices - PC / tablet / smartphone. It makes sense for MS to do this. They need to re-invigorate their market, in the face of competition from Apple & from the range of Android devices.
