Anyone flown American Airlines?

Just curious about this as we are flying with them to NYC from Birmingham in November and I've only flown with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic previously.

When we booked through the travel agent, the flights were under BA but they don't fly to NYC from Birmingham so they use American Airlines for their customers as part of the One World Alliance.

I imagine a cheeseburger will be on the in-flight menu Laughing

Any experience of the Airline?

Yes, many moons ago. Sorry to say that they were the most miserable bunch of flight crew I have ever had the displeasure of meeting. I do hope things have changed.

Fingers crossed then! My sister said they were good on an internal flight she took from NYC to Dallas once but lets hope the transatlantic service has improved! We were very happy with Virgin on both occasions we have flown with them with BA good but not quite as good. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

I flew back from Boston Logan 10 days after 9/11 once they had reopened airspace with Delta.

Have to say that they were amazing, particularly given the national sense of grief that every American was going through at the time. Foraging near Gaydon....

British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia sign joint business agreement

British Airways, American Airlines and Iberia have signed a joint business agreement on flights between Europe and North America and plan to expand their global cooperation. The airlines have filed for worldwide anti - trust immunity from the US Department of Transportation and will notify the appropriate regulatory authorities in the European Union.

Yup Thumbs Up
Flew with them from Manchester to New Mexico via Atlanta (and return of course) - thought they were great EXCEPT as if I didn't have enough vices they introduced me to Jack Daniels and Coke Cool
Just try and adjust to American culture and enjoy the relaxed way they deal with you compared to some of our airlines (but don't make ANY jokes about guns, bombs etc)Shocked
Good Luck

Possibly expect a rather bizarre meal with a not particularly nice deep dish pizza.

Assuming that you're flying economy, if you're considering paying extra for seats that appear from the seat plan to have extra legroom, do not choose one where the aisle dog-legs. Unless you don't mind people tripping over your feet, or regularly being whacked with the trolleys.

To be fair, one of the stewardesses recognised the problem, joking with me that wasn't it the worst seat. She was quite surprised when I told her I had paid extra. Pleasantly surprised then to later find the cost of seat refunded to me.

They have a better entertainment system than BA, with USB connectors to allow you to play your own media, but since you plug it into the seat in front, if you're not by the window you're interrupted if someone needs to get out.

I'm fortunate to usually fly business class on longer flights, but I don't find any flight particularly enjoyable, and one does what you can to just make it as bearable as possible.

BA & AA seats are reasonably comfortable, the one I would avoid is Delta, but then I haven't flown with them for a while so perhaps they have improved.
