I have to admit to being nerdy and carrying out a test between a Disco 3 and Freelander 2 yesterday. I was driving down the M6 and my brother was following me so we both reset trip computers and mpg readouts and measured consumtion over the same 50 miles at the same speed and time. it passed the time anyway. the result was that the Freelander was 3.8 mpg better than the disco 3 for the same journey. Cars were a Disco 3 TDV6 auto and a Freelander 2 HSE TD4 auto.

Sory should have added that the Disco was a 2005 model and did 30.1 mpg the Freelander is a 2007 model and did 33.9 mpg. |

Another boring journey down the M6 so decided to try the same journey at the same speed but with the aircon turned off today. Result was 34.7 mpg for exactly the same journey at the same speed.

i think they say that Air Con uses about 40miles worth of fuel from a full tank.

I wonder if it makes any difference to the fuel consumption if the aircon is set to ecconomy instead of sweating with it turned off 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof. Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc. |

The ECON setting is a bit of cheat really, its just the heater working normally with no a/c.
