Interesting MPG test.

I have to admit to being nerdy and carrying out a test between a Disco 3 and Freelander 2 yesterday. I was driving down the M6 and my brother was following me so we both reset trip computers and mpg readouts and measured consumtion over the same 50 miles at the same speed and time. Yawn it passed the time anyway. the result was that the Freelander was 3.8 mpg better than the disco 3 for the same journey. Cars were a Disco 3 TDV6 auto and a Freelander 2 HSE TD4 auto.

Just thought someone might want to know this. Thumbs Up

I actually managed to get 45.2 mpg on the computer the other day. Must admit, I was driving at 50-60 mph most of the way but I think with a long run with no roundabouts, I could see that figure go over 50.

It's back down to 37 now though. Sad 09MY FL2 Td4 XS, Style Pack, Privacy Glass, Martinique Blue.. oh so very blue..

I blasting around in a Disco 3 GS TDV6 Auto this week as my dealers is repainting the rear bumper again

I'm finding the D3 to be 18 -22 mpg around town and 27-29mpg on the motorway at 65-75mph.

Drive at higher cruising speeds (90mph) and it drops to 24mpg,

Also i find it accelerates smoother if you don't floor the right foot as there is no lag with it gearing gears etc

I have to admit with LR selling 1year old D3 HSE for a a shade over £28K it maybe a bargin at car change time on a equivilant aged car. (though the company car tax will still be booked out on its original price Big Cry) Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Sory should have added that the Disco was a 2005 model and did 30.1 mpg the Freelander is a 2007 model and did 33.9 mpg.

Another boring journey down the M6 so decided to try the same journey at the same speed but with the aircon turned off today. Result was 34.7 mpg for exactly the same journey at the same speed.

Just off for a shower now to cool down.

i think they say that Air Con uses about 40miles worth of fuel from a full tank.

I filled up the other day with Esso Excellium, I think the engine sounds alot smoother and i thing the mpg has gone up a little, I'll see when the next fill up comes Very Happy Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Without Ac you get hot 'n' bothered and end up driving like a Censored so loosing your 40 mile per tank...well I do anyway. Laughing At work

I wonder if it makes any difference to the fuel consumption if the aircon is set to ecconomy instead of sweating with it turned off Question 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

The ECON setting is a bit of cheat really, its just the heater working normally with no a/c.

In previous cars I've had the ECON did give a/c but not enough cooling power for 30 degree C type days .... so was fine in the UK Laughing Laughing
