Excessive body roll

Hi guys, my freelander has recently developed excessive body roll when going round corners.

I've checked the shocks and all seem ok, the tyres are new (pirelli scorpion zero) that I only had fitted about a month ago, although the handling had got worse before fitting, hence I replaced them.

Its going in on Thursday to have the tracking done but I'd welcome any other pointers as well.

I wondered if it could be anything to do with the software?

I would not have thought the software had any thing to do with the suspension as its not air or any thing clever,maybe a broken spring?

Have you checked the tyre pressures? Sounds silly but they can cause a wierd sensation if incorrect

excessive play in roll bar bushes or drop links, both an easy DIY cheap fix

So it cant be the tyres. It must be the shocks IMO. Shocks can be well worn without leaking fluid. Have you tried bouncing the corners and watching the damping of the rebound?
How many miles has the FL2 done? Jules

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll check the tyre pressures tomorrow. Already checked the shocks and seem ok, the cars done 36,000 so wouldn't expect them to have gone.

Anti roll bar drop links is a good start point. These are attached just under the spring seat cup on the shocker. Drop links are very often of questionable strength , some are linked too to bottom by a skinny steel rod, some are a plastic moulding. It's not unknown for the centre section of plastic moulding to have broken and the centre section dissapear hence no active anti roll bar and no clunks because it's gone AWOL .
.
If it were a damper then on a straight but bumpy road the car would wallow about and not keep a straight line.

Oh I see - at 36K miles its unlikely to be dampers unless its been thrashed off-road Jules

Never had a drop link fail on my FL2s but they went on my BMW (thrashed it around several tracks) and they got very clunky on speed bumps etc - which gave the game away. Jules

From my experience, they are the most common cause of clunks from the front suspension on any car.

My Freelander had Excessive body roll until I replaced all the Drop links front and rear, I broke the ball joint on my rear drop link on a deep rut went too fast off road. Embarassed
