Whatever happened to the rule/law that said that you have to present your log book to get a number plate made? I found lots of DIY places on eBay. I even made one up for £8 with the dealers details and logo on the bottom to replace a plate vandalised by a passing fox.

It's only very recently in Scotland that his law was passed! When I used to make plates no documents at all were required in any of our branches as it was a Scottish company. Halfrauds however always wanted documention as they are an Twisted Evil English company MY14 Kahn Converted Dynamic - Fuji White Ebony/Pimento Interior

Wales 2014 Freelander 2 SD4 HSE Lux Auto Sumatra Black

Had reason to go back to LANDROVER dealer 3 days after taken delivery of current car as needed to tow a specialised bit of kit(before you start CG not a caravan) so needed a spare rear plate for lighting board, only to be told by service that they needed v5 before they could make the plate.!!
So now getting a bit peeved suggested ,they speak to the salesman 10 feet away who sold me the car not 72hours earlier and they have all the necessary paperwork .No V5 NO Plate came the reply,
,(usually takes a few weeks to get paperwork back from Dvlc Swansea )
Suggested they keep the new car and I take my old one back ,as it is now only forty feet away and I have a plate for that vehicle....!
At this point dealer principle arrives, and I explain situation and point out how can they put plates on new vehicles without a V5 before they get the paperwork from Swansea....??

New rear plate in less than 5 mins F O C Sir ... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Wales
Were the mud is thicker, and the ruts are deeper.
(And we have the water to wash it off, and more on the way..! )
Sd4 and chrome Ar*e piece, Auto box for best fun

Not being able to get a plate that matches the ones already on a vehivle that you have with you at the place of manufacture does seem about the most stupid new law of the century. But it does mean you can drive about with a plate missing and just tell plod that you can't get a new one as the V5 is at you aunty's house in Auchterarder and she is away on a world cruise! Everyone can spread it - Anyone can catch it. Stay home - the life you save can be your own!

Haven't checked - it's one of those strange local services that only seems to run every alternate market day when there's no r in the month. A by-product of living here is that everyone and his grandmother has localised ELY plates. The funeral service round the corner has A1, 2 and 3 ELY, and a bungalow round the corner has three similar. Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone
300TDi Disco (bought new - terrible car) sent back after 18 months
Freelander 1 Estate - leased, given back at end of lease
200TDi Disco (bought from a mate with 100,000 on the clock) - Gone
Disco 2 TD5 - sold and exported to France
FR2 TD4 GS - Gone
FR2 SD4 HSE - Now changed for a DS
New model ex-demo Evoque S 180 in white
Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.
